Yes they tried to charge me on a double jeopardy case and I counter sued them and the agreement was to reinstate my permit acquire both handgun and rifle  And I didn't want to settle with cash because innocent people will have to pay for their mistakes. Don't ask me what I was charged with! The goal is to have a good lawyer!!!!

The OP asked specifically about counseling for drug & alcohol use.

If your charges aren't related to that type of case, how does your answer add to the discussion?

Hey Darmok, he specifically said don't ask him what he got charged for.  ;)

You failed the test.

Kekoa, pay no attention to gongho. He's salty balls because his retarded poll got locked.

Never mind the feud between jayguns and Darmok, they just need to scrap.

It seems jayguns charges were somehow related to your original question.

I have a friend that was counseled for alcohol use.

He was NOT diagnosed as an alcoholic.

It seems that getting diagnosed as an alcoholic or drug addict counts as a mental illness.

If you are diagnosed as such, you will need to get a doctors clearance before you can own firearms.

If its just the kind of counseling that comes with DUI or domestic fallout, you're ok. It won't affect your ability to own firearms. (As long as you're not convicted of domestic violence or not a convicted felon)

Kingkeoni, Thanks for the useful reply. I am not really up on the poll, I did read a little and just left it alone after all the banter that was going on.

Do you know if it would be necessary to submit a written letter or some other type of clearance when applying for a permit or is it something the PD will look into on their own? I do not want to leave things at chance, I want to be proactive in this process.

Any recommendations for a good 2A lawyer out there that could give a brother a hand. Not sure if I will need one but I do want to preserve my right to honor the 2nd Amendment.

Big Mahaloos again Sir!
