I've got scupper pro's a scrambler and a Malibu.the scupper pro always the first one I grab.
-
I trolled from my one man canoe and caught fish for years before buying myself a fully loaded scupper pro. I used to troll an 8.25 mile route from Hawaii Kai to Kaimana Beach and I figured that if I was catching stuff with my canoe worked, a fully rigged kayak would be even better. So I bought myself a scupper pro and outfitted it with two pole holders, a fish finder, gaff, collapsible cooler, pfd, carbon fiber paddles, parachute, anchor, etc. The kayak cost me $700 and came with everything, minus one pole holder and fish finder. The beast weighed over 80lbs and I never got used handling the thing. If felt like I was paddling the African Queen compared to my 22 lbs carbon fiber canoe and I got seasick inside of 30 minutes from the rocking. The worst thing is that I didn't catch anything before giving up and going back to my canoe. Caught more fish after going back to my canoe. If you don't mind lugging around the weight and the equipment and paddling that stuff through choppy water, you should be able to catch something. I gave up because it was just too much work.
As far as getting one, people are always selling their Kayaks so be patient and wait for one. Chances are the Kayak will come with all of the things you need to get started at a fraction of the price.

this should tell you a lot about how many people buy thinking they will love it, and end up selling :)

Totally down (after I decide on a kayak)!
I'll bring the ISAW A3 Extreme and you gotta bring the GoPro, just in case "Chompy da Shark" feels like doing another surprise appearance!!
ok sounds like a plan. Btw have you gotten to play with your isaw? If so what's the review.

Well, it is said that the two happiest days of a boat(kayak) owners life are the day they buy it and the day they sell it ;)
Just kidding New, kayaking should be a good way to exercise :shaka:

uh yea... that's how we are gonna go kayak out of my backyard. If i didn't live on the water we would just be in my neighbors yard sitting in our kayaks. My tent is the blue one btw on the beach with the shopping cart filled with cans in front.

I've done lots of kayak fishing off my friends' kayaks. All reef trolling live oama or halalu. Its really fun. Even did some bottom fishing out by the Mokes, my friend got seasick on that one. Anyways I have been looking for a fishing kayak too. The one I am leaning towards is the 2 man Hobie Mirage Island. Go down to Windward Boats in Kailua. Every so often they have demos where you can go try them out. I like the fact that you can convert it to a sailing trimaran. Just my 2 cents. All my hardcore friends use the Scupper Pro.
Here's the link. I saw this a few years back. Just never really got the wifey 100% sold on the idea.

You up a creek without a paddle?
-
I been wanting to get one as well. Cheapest option for me right now. Paddle out and drift and start casting and see what comes of it, or paddle and maybe troll. Could also be used for diving. Havent really looked around for one though. Let us know how your search goes.

haha! sort of, have yak but no way to carry (yet) since sold the truck but I got a plan which is only half baked at this point :) also looking for rudder kits. more interested in just paddling around but fishing sounds fun too. I can see how the s.o.t. would end up being overweight and a general p.i.t.a. Kinda' sounds like me I so got to start exercising again.

Go rudder-less. Its a bit harder and takes some getting used to though.

yah, was doing that bass monkey. ok on still day but in the wind sucks major balls! the oem kits no longer available but found out about Smart Track and getting more info. my wife's yak will be custom install, well that's the plan at least. not like there isn't enough on the to do list already!
