Title: not cool....
Post by: ren on September 29, 2013, 05:36:37 PM
People can argue that dry firing an AR lower by itself (no upper) is OK but if its not yours don't do it. The hammer ends up hitting the bolt catch and CAN break it. Sure you can argue that you  did it enough times and it didn't break, but if you are handling one at a store and have no intention of buying it, don't do that. Not cool.

It's fine to dry fire it even with upper on though, just don't do it with a rimfire gun.  And yeah that hammer will break the bolt catch/release for sure if you dont ease it forward.
