Is the renewal process the same as applying for a long gun permit? 2 week wait?
Will HPD mail the permit when it's ready in 2 weeks?

If you prefer mailing, follow the directions on the HPD webpage for the stamped, self-addressed envelope with proper signature service.

As an option, applicants may have their processed permits mailed to them.
Applicants need to provide a self-addressed, certified restricted-delivery, pre-paid
envelope (available at the U.S. Post Office) when coming for their initial application
for permit.

Bring the green USPS Form 3811 with you.
HPD only says you need a SASE with "Restricted Delivery" on it, and technically, that just needs to be written or stamped on the envelope by the addressee info (as far as USPS is concerned), but HPD wants the green form too, they just don't say it online.
I dropped off a few dozen form 3811s with the fine folks at HPD in case any applicants don't know to have one with them or forgot to get one. If you need one, try ask Suzie if they have a few on hand, and if you're applying and asking them to mail you the permit, bring a few extra 3811s down, as it will help out others 2a-minded folks...

Every renewal is the same 2 week wait. If your renewing within the last two weeks of your permit expiration, you need to bring in the current one and surrender it. If its expired, no need to bring it in. Just go and reapply and wait the two weeks. I still got my old permits dating back to '94 :shaka:

Better yet, submit renewal online and have it mailed to you, like for motor vehicles.

Interesting. I brought my current LG permit for a renewal that was to be expired in 14 days. My current LG permit wasn't surrendered, the officer at the window at that time gave it back to me. It was perfect timing for when my LG permit had expired and for me to pick up my new LG permit with the 2 weeks/14 days waiting period.
