Title: I ordered my RCBS Rock Chucker
Post by: BLKDRGN on November 02, 2013, 10:36:22 AM
Now what? Which dies do I get for .308 and .338? I want really good ones. Also what else do I need such as a tumbler, bullets, gun powder, etc? I just want to order the hardware first and then read how to do it when I'm ready.

some well known "really good" dies are Redding and Forster.
In my opinion, read about it first before spending more money. That way, you understand what is necessary, what works and what doesn't due to voodoo.
Tumblers are great for cleaning large batches of brass - not necessary. Dry tumbling is the cheapest and easiest.
Bullet selection varies. Much like cooking. What are you shooting for? Same with powder. There is a myriad of powder, primer, bullet combinations. Some are tried and true. You;d have to experiment with your gun. Ladder technique, OCW. Search for load recipes and work your way up from min. rec. load. Chronographs are great tools. Learn how to read case sign i.e. flattened primers, etc.

Dies:
I use a Bonanza/ Forster benchrest set for my 223. ..Really good results.
RCBS and Dillon for pistols.

Other stuff:
It really depends on what kind of guns you are shooting, how much you shoot, and your desired end result.

I suggest read a lot or maybe watch some youtubes.
Make friends with a rifle shooter that already reloads for a similar gun.

I hate ordering from Midway. Today I ordered a shooting mat and scope level and the shipping was $58 for USPS. damn rip off.
