Title: Gun Coat

Anybody know of any stores that carry Duracoat, Gunkote or Ceracoat here on the island? I've been spraying with Duplicolor heat resistant engine enamel on my rifles and want to step it up to spraying "Gun Paint"..... I know I can order it on line but wanna see it before I buy it..... Thanks in advance :thumbsup:

Try asking OGC to point you in the right direction.  Or try calling John Perreira @ JHP Arms FFL Dealer 239-7449.  He does gunsmithing, repairs, rebarreling, restocking etc.

From what I remember, a few years back they clamped down on air-shipping pressurized sray-paint cans to Hawaii. I know this because it was hard to find the good primer to basecoat my miniatures.....

I wonder if it's ok to ship to Hawaii now?

I have the same problem as you. My ability to hobby paint was screwed over by the bans. I am not sure of the specific nature of the bans, except that many hobby shops closed down and many of the ones that are left no longer have a reliable supply of products.

I was able to procure a can or two of durabake from the mainland that a buddy and I used on our rifles.  When I decided I wanted to remove the finish recently, I looked at a bunch of online threads saying brake cleaner and acetone would both be sufficient for the task.  Heres some pics...

Acetone after 8 hours...

Yeah acetone isn't really that strong.  Hell I use brake cleaner to 'rinse' off the gun.

There were a couple guys posting on ar15.com saying brake cleaner would instantly blow duracoat from the firearm, and acetone would wipe it off clean in 5 minutes.  Even 3-4 coats of Jasco didnt get it perfectly clean, but I still like the look on my green lawn...

Yeah , thanks for the pics nf9648.. I notice that when I used acetone on the AR lower and rail it turned it kinda like a gray, like it got the "moisture" sucked right out of it. I tried a silicone rag but it didn't darken it.... ???

Hit it with a cotton rag and your favorite gun lube, itll bring the color back.  Thats exactly what happened, the acetone took the oil out of the pores in the aluminum, same thing will happen if you clean a parkerized gun with acetone, denatured alcohol, mek, etc.

Not without removing the anodizing and some aluminum.  The only thing I would feel safe blasting it with would be corncob or walnut; anything like glass bead will damage the receiver.

In a mostly related question: Does anyone know of a good product to restore the evil black goodness of Beretta pistols?  I've got a Cougar 8045, which is pretty similar to the 92's as far as finish goes.  A while back the push button on the right side of the frame which locks the take-down lever in place got some surface corrosion.  I got it all off and have prevented further rust damage through the liberal application of Break-Free CLP, but I'm wondering what a guy should use to touch that up, since it's pretty much bare metal now.

Not sure who does parkerizing locally, but send it off to the mainland, cant cost more than $10-20 at most.

Back to the initial post, I have seen Duracoat or Gunkote, don't remember which, at Security Equipment Corporation.

Has anyone seen Gun-Kote in our LGS lately? I've been to Security Equipment and Young Guns and they didn't carry it. YGs said they don't bring it in anymore.
