Title: Kokohead Rules - 11/9 - 11/10
Post by: BLKDRGN on November 05, 2013, 08:14:41 AM
What are the rules for this coming weekend because of the recent issues? I've heard many conflicting things so I'm not sure what to bring.

1. Will we be allowed to shoot past 100 yards? If so metal or paper targets?
2. Can we shoot metal targets on pistol and rifle side? 50 and/or 100yrds?

No shooting pass 100 yrd period on the rifle side. you can setup metal target on the 100 as long as they are not fixed(target needs to swing or be able to move). You can't shoot metal target on the pistol side.

Thanks! I can't remember the rule for 50yd metal targets on the rifle side. What caliber can we shoot again? I swear it was only .22s but does .223 count?

Still think its silly we can shoot steel at 50 and 100 yards, but not 225+. Ricochet chances increase the closer you shoot to steel

I think it's because we typically use bigger caliper guns to shoot at the long range targets. I don't think people will shoot their .416 at 50yrds.

I called and no shooting beyond 100 yards. Rifle side - 50 yards rimfire only allowed, 100 yards centerfire allowed.

I thought it was only .22 rimfire at steel at 50 yds. I sight in .223/5.56 at 50 with paper and see others shooting same

Sorry let me clarify. I assumed we were talking about # 2.

Shooting metal targets - Rifle side - 50 yards rimfire only allowed, 100 yards centerfire allowed.

From what was explained to me by an RO there was a house that was hit by what was believed to be a ricochet. I think he was referring to the house that was previously mentioned. They are limiting it to 100 yards to eliminate a possible source of ricochets (shooting beyond 100 yards).

I can see the logic.  When shooting out to 100 yds, the target is generally below the shooters position.  Positioning targets further out places them up higher on the crater embankment.

The higher the target angle from point of origin, the more upward the angle of deflection will be, generally speaking.

So let me understand this update. Is steel (the ones up on the hill) and any target beyond 100 now NO MORE at Kokohead?

Pretty much. At least can still shoot steel though.  Probably gonna get a plate to set up at 100
