here's the details-
HDF Range Day: November 30, 2013 Aloha Fellow HDF shooters I am posting up this months Shooting Session;
This month we are holding a 101/ beginner introduction class at 8:00am -8:45. The reason for holding this session first is so that the new people can maybe participate in the rest of the training day if confident enough.
Anybody can attend this portion even the advanced individuals for warm up for the intermediate session. The advance session will start immediatly following the 101 session and go till approx 1pm.
The training for the day will consist of Carbine (150 rounds) and Pistol (150 rounds)approx. You will need a sling for your carbine and a belt holster for your pistol. Also minimum mags for both carbine and pistol are 2 but recommend up to 5 for both carbine and pistol.
Training for the day will consist of some movement drills, Accuracy torture drills, and cover drills so come ready for another SAFE and exciting fun day with THE HAWAII DEFENSE FOUNDATION.
Attire long pants sturdy belt closed toe shoes a hat to cover you from sun. ear pro / eye pro. Suncreen is a good idea. Bring a lunch and lots of water to hydrate!!!!
FEE Schedule is as follows:
Starting off with the sign in, waivers and fees. everyone must sign in and sign waivers prior to shooting. Everyone! At this time will pay "match fees" collected pior to shooting. Fee schedule as follows HDF current members "match fee" is $10.00. As For non-members its $20.00 without joininig the HDF, Or they will be encouraged to join the HDF at this time @ $25.00 for membership and then it would be $10.00 for the day total $35.00 so take advantage of this now.
also forgot the free shoot portion of the day fee is $10.00 for anyone coming out just for that portion which is still a "match fee" because the team building portion is the "match" which is at the end of the day.

Quick question on caliber. Would it be okay to start out with my .22 (M&P 15-22 & Sig Mosquito) since I'm just starting out and it will easy on the pocket book or do you think I should just leave them at home and bring the AR and 9mm since that's my main weapon systems?

i sent a message to the range day crew to answer
it's a dilemma re:training vs cost
it will depend on how often you plan on attending range days
and on your budget
if you plan on attending regularly, it would not be a problem if you used .22lr a few times in the long run
if you are not able to attend often, you are probably better off using the chance at realistic training using the ammo you will use in a self-defense situation, and saving the .22lr for when you go to the regular range and silhouette side

I highly do not recommend using .22l pistols during training. Them shit's malfunction all the time, and it's not really close to the same for your training. If you get the mosquito dirty - it will not run (I say this after thousands of rounds through them, using them at the range etc.).
That's just my .02. Take it for what you paid for it.
On the 22lr rifle, too many people can't afford to shoot with 5.56 or .223, so I always that's not a bad substitute; try to get a rifle that is close to your regular platform as possible. The MP15-22 would be that. If you can afford it, I would recommend using real ammo. If you can't, then yes - you are using the next best thing!

I understand that. I wasn't saying that the two are related. Just that I was surprised to see both scheduled on the same day since MPPL usually takes both ranges (like I mentioned in my OP). Fitting 4 stages of fire on the big range with Slick as match director will be tight.

if you cannot find what you need and get it shipped to you, post what you handgun is, and someone may have a spare to loan you
the most popular mag carriers at range days are the HSGI taco pouches
SEC has them on the wall behind the knife case

we haven't had enforced signups and not everyone is a 2aHI member
so we are stuck trying to drum up excitement and participation while not really being sure of who or how many are planning on attending
procedures will evolve as the months go by
so please, if you know people who have attended in the past, have them notify someone that they are planning on being there

Soon they will be able to check at the range. I'm just trying to see if there is a easy way to do it; I might have to pay a developer to make a quick search option for me. I'm also getting some new cards and stuff sent out to them so that signups can be done at the range and you can get a card there. My buddy from CA who worked our cards and hooks us up I think is out of town right now.

I'll be there for medical as usual, but I gotta be gone by 1300 to work another standby. Thinking about bringing my M590 + slugs to supplement my AR when she starts running dry... hell, I don't even have that much to feed the .22 upper.

i've done some shotgun transitions on my own in the afternoon
but it would be good to have a day where we can practice combat reloading, switching from slug to buck, handgun transitions, strong side/weak side, etc

Excellent. As most are new to it, then I propose taking it at a 101 level with much repetition to build those base skills and not just throwing rounds down range. Start with all off hand firing just to get comfortable with the new hold, sighting and firing. Then to transition skill building: 1 round, switch, 1 round, switch; 2 rounds, switch, 2 rounds, switch; add movement (time allowing) mag changes etc. Tons of stuff to do but not all at once :D

The only magazine pouches I recommend are high speed gear taco pouches. I like them because no matter what platform you are using these are able to adapt and fit that mag.

i may cruise by and check it out though. observe others set ups so i can be more prepared next month.

we have a 101 class scheduled for 8-8:45 for range safety and holstering techniques, but we're not sure how many will show up, so if there are not any, we will go straight into carbine class
fun shoot is scheduled for 1 pm start, but last time the class went over
the range day staff is trying to improve systems every time and things will evolve as time goes by

Thanks ku ...fellow hdf its gonna be a great day at the HDF event its dry a little overcast but all in all not as bad as forecast so don't hesitate to show up today. 101 starts in about 45 mins lets gooo! :popcorn:

Here's a video taken with my ContourROAM on my 10/22 during the barricade shooting. I was using the 45 degree reflex sight, so the view cants pretty heavily when I'm sighted.

Yeah -- he's been practicing since the last gun show. He was doing well at the DLNR booth with the 10# bow and is practicing with a 15# one now. Building up draw strength slowly.
We were sharing the archery side with the Koreans shooting their target at crazy super long range.
