So Utah chose the 1911 as their state gun. Now Arizona has chosen the Colt Single Action Army revolver as theirs. What would hawaii's one be?

I'd vote for the .70 muzzleloaders that Kamehameha used.

Only if 18+, picture I.D., permit to acquire, and criminal background check.
Oh, and no carrying, concealed or unconcealed.

That was the first thought that popped into my head when I read the OP. There is not a doubt in my mind, the official rifle of Hawaii is the AR. I've never seen so many evil black rifles in my life, which is strange, because I'm from a state where you could walk into a gun store, do the NICS background check, and walk out fifteen minutes later with an AR. No permits, no registration, no mag limit, no nothing. I guess it's the forbidden fruit thing. It's just kind of ironic that ARs are so popular in such an anti-gun state. ???

That is kind of strange. I guess it has more to do with hunting not being as much of a tradition in Hawaii as it is in the mainland.

I think the AR with its big, fearsome 10 round magazine is clearly the official state rifle. The state pistol is that all time record fish killer, the .22 ruger.
-
Given the demographics, I'll say the Arisaka or some type of PI made zip gun. Just kiding

Yeah, I suppose that could be, too. It's the plains were I'm from, so you lay on top of a hill and wait for the deer instead of hiking through the woods. That means you don't really need a light weight gun, but you do need one that'll put a deer down reliably at 400yds. The strengths of the AR don't matter, and the weaknesses matter a whole lot; so it's not very suitable for what they need out there.

I would say it is about the cool factor vice any other reason.

I think with Hawaii's association with WWII, it should be something like a 1903 Springfield or Garand. How about the Tommy Gun or 40mm Bofors?

I'd be ok with voting in the 16" guns off the Missouri. Go big or go home!

I'd second the Neft. Tells everyone everything they need to know about Hawaii.
