Title: Magpul angled fore grip versus vertical fore grip
Post by: causa mortis on December 10, 2013, 03:20:18 PM
Bought both versions and noticed the afg is more comfortable to hold over a longer period. Noticed the vertical version would start to tax by wrist if I was shooting for longer and longer.

Anyone have similar experiences with them?

How do you hold your vertical grip?

BCM sells a VFG that has a slight angle.
It was made as a direct result of this problem.

I switched to the angeled forgrip, because I only had my lower two fingers on the vertical, more comfortable.

I find the angled fore grip more comfortable to shoot from.  Especially since I have large hands, and do the "thumb over barrel" driving forward method that magpul likes to show.

But with vertical grips its easier to take weight off of your primary hand when not shooting (like while patrolling).  And you have the advantage of using it as a monopod, or "push/pulling" it on cover or barricades for a more stable shot.  Also, retention is much better if someone is trying to wrangle it from your hands or you need to muzzle thump someone.

But since I'm not patrolling, actively shooting behind cover, or getting it melee fights with it... I use the AFG.  When I do use a vert fore grip, I prefer stubby or shorter grips, otherwise I feel like I'm getting caught up on my sling.

It bugs me seeing guys "broomhandle" their vert grips.  But then again, it bugs me seeing guys grip their magwell too.  Just rock whatever works for you.

Im looking at this;

I like it because its compact and has a slight angle for comfort, may be a good option.

Ive used everything from broomsticks, to AFGs, to hand-stops and havent found a "perfect" device yet.

I've also noticed, that I tend to want to grip my index finger on something when I shoot, and I tend to place it on the front of the AFG since my hands cover the rest of it.  When shooting a VFG, I'll instinctually stretch my finger out and put it out in front of my rails.  Not a good thing to have a finger next to a hot barrel.

The most comfortable grip I felt was combining the angled foregrip and vertical grip together (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/89hatcher/Mobile%20Uploads/0F2D0470-0F53-4CE7-8258-0FE8BE5E1726_zpsrrsfbcz9.jpg)
