Title: The Hawaii police officers arrested with pot
Post by: 2aHawaii on November 12, 2009, 12:36:00 PM
Since this came up in another thread, I thought I'd post a topic on it. IMHO it was a stupid thing to do and these guys should be punished. Just because you are police officers doesn't mean you are above the law. This is especially true when you aren't in your own jurisdiction.

A Honolulu police officers arrested in Las Vegas on suspicion of misdemeanor drug charges is to be arraigned in Las Vegas court Thursday.

Officer Shayne Souza is accused of possessing less than an ounce of marijuana and obstructing a public officer.

Souza allegedly ran from a Las Vegas Parks Police officer on Aug. 15 after Souza was told to go to the front of a van in which he and two other men were found.

The 47-year-old Souza, a fellow officer, 37-year-old Kevin Fujioka, were arrested. The third man from Honolulu who is not a police officer, 38-year-old Scott Wilson, also was arrested.

Fujioka has a tentative arraignment date of Nov. 16.

Both officers have been stripped of their police powers and placed on administrative leave without pay.

They made a series of bad choices that night.  Trying to drop the fact that they were police officers to get out of it probably just made the situation worse.

I guess the saying needs to be changed, "What happens in Vegas... could cost you your job and career"

Forget bad choices just on that night!  Officer Souza has been in trouble for other things in the past, AND has gotten away with it.  He lost his job once because he was let go from the dept for tipping off a person in a drug raid.  He fought it through the HPD union and got his job back.  The second incident happened when he threatened a motorist with his duty gun in a road rage incident.  Again, he still maintained his employment with the dept.  WTF????  His father is retired rank and so Im sure that helps!  :wtf:

Hopefully he can't weasel his way out of this one.  We don't need people like that policing us.

One of two Honolulu police officers arrested Aug. 15 on suspicion of smoking marijuana in a van at a city park in Las Vegas was granted a second continuance in the case last week and is scheduled to go to trial on the charge Jan. 28.

Court officials in Las Vegas said officer Shayne Souza was granted the continuance for further negotiations in the case.

Souza had been scheduled to go to trial on the charge Nov. 18, but was granted a continuance until Dec. 16. On that date, a second continuance was granted, this one until Jan. 28.
