Got an email response from Senator Baker (Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Public Safety, Intergovernmental and Military Affairs) today after asking her to use her position on the committee to schedule a hearing on SB2168. Here is her response and my original email:
Sen. Roz Baker
Thank you for your e-mail. Unfortunately I don't support the bill you asked about. I don't believe allowing the carrying of concealed weapons is good for Hawaii.
Best regards, Roz

Subject: Please Schedule a Hearing for SB2168
Dear Senator,
Please use your membership on the Senate Committee on Public Safety, Intergovernmental and Military Affairs to schedule a hearing for SB2168 so that law-abiding citizens of Hawaii may legally exercise their inalienable right to self-defense of themselves and/or their families in the manner they so choose outside their home or workplace.
Thank you,
I suppose that might mean she will oppose even holding a hearing. I plan to write her tomorrow and ask her to please explain the arguments and evidence that led her to conclude that "allowing the carrying of concealed weapons is [not] good for Hawaii." And that even if she is opposed, that we citizens would prefer that the committee hold a hearing so that the evidence regarding the issue can be presented in a public forum.

good luck on this one

In other words, she will decide what is good for Hawaii rather than her constituents. :grrr: That is the kind of elitism that we are unfortunately led by. Infuriating.
So would women let "her" decide on abortion?

I might even faint if I actually got a reply with her arguments and specific evidence cited. ;) It's just that (due to my own personal shortcomings) I HAVE to ask in order to give them a chance to explain in rational terms how they end up with their public policy positions. Otherwise one might be inclined to conclude that they base their positions and votes on nothing more than party politics and/or know-nothing emotionalism (aka "common sense gun safety"). And I'm sure there must be more to it than that, right? :geekdanc:
