Reminds me of a friend I grew up with from small-kid time who always disagree with what I said.. When we finally got to high school I told him: Ken, you know what your problem is? You like to argue.

He replied,"What?! I don't like to argue! YOU like to argue!"

I hate to sound all serious, but that Roosevelt thread was embarrassing to this forum and the community in general.  It does not help the 2A cause when outsiders view such a thread.  I am also disappointed in the lack of moderation in that thread.  I am all for open conversation, but when it diverges from the original topic and deteriorates to the level that it did, its usefulness as a topic should be either A) put back on track, even if hands need slapping or B) Locked and possibly non-useful conversation not pertaining to the original topic be removed.  IMHO that thread in its entirety should be nuked.  Moderators are indeed entitled to an opinion but their first usefulness to the community is to attempt to remain impartial and make these decisions based on the good of the forum and community while setting aside the desire to voice personal opinion.

We have been generally, very, liberal in moderating threads. I do see your point, and will bring it up.

I used to feel the same way.  I got tired of seeing almost nothing but off-topic crap, irrelevant stupid comments, Gongho on every thread, and attacks from a half dozen regulars for saying anything about them!  Reports to the moderators resulted in, "If you don't like what so-and-so says, just ignore him."

I guess those rules we all agreed to follow when creating accounts were just a formality.  Like gun laws, if the forum rules aren't being enforced, people are free to do whatever the hell they want.

So, now I ignore the posts where people are just trying to entertain each other.  If it causes problems with the public's perception of this community, then the blame is on the a**holes who treat this like their own social networking site -- and on the mods for not acting like mods.

Like everything else in life, you have to lay the blame where it belongs before you can stop the bad behavior.  If the majority don't see anything wrong and are allowed to continue without even a warning, you might as well keep your concerns about public perception to yourself and start a new site that has at least some minimum standards that are actually enforced.

IMO it's really just something that happens when you have a group of alpha's.  I think it's healthy to argue your POV on whatever topic that is discussed to either prove your point with facts or just state your opinion.  Sometimes it takes someone defending their position on a particular subject for others to see both sides of an argument.  I can't be the only one that defended a position on a topic and changed their mind about something because a "light" goes off and you understand something just a little bit better.  I'll I will speak for myself and I get heated fast and post shit without thinking at times, but if you've meet me before I'm pretty chill.  I'll stop takin them pills that "may" cause rage... I promise.   ;)

You are right.  It is an embarrassment to the gun community AND THIS FORUM.  It is also my/our fault for being so lenient with the forum and light on moderation.

I believed Hicarry's posts, in the aforementioned thread,  to be in good taste and the retorts to be unprofessional.    I let the thread continue, because, I thought that the best goal is to try to work out differences in an adult fashion. However, name calling and cussing ensued...

Hicarry has done more for YOUR gun rights, in this disgustingly anti-gun state, than most here has even dreamed about doing.  He does all this on his own time and own dime.  Why?  Because he believes in the 2nd amendment and ALL of the constitution of the United States of America.  This being a lot more action than so many in this city and state, who claim to be 'for' 2A, do not take, so much so, I am starting to see why this place does not have CCW and the gun rights here are so asinine.  People on this site, who claim to be for 2A cannot even speak in civil tones and have civil discussion with one another, to come together and fight for the purpose of protecting our rights.

So, if you want to disrespect Hicarry's opinion, or any other person for that matter, and disregard thoughts without careful consideration and respectful debate, it is all on you.  But I tell you now, if it was not for him and some other DEDICATED defenders of YOUR RIGHTS, you'd be playing with orange and purple supersoakers and airsofts right now, instead of having the ability to defend you family and property with the firearms you enjoy today.  So take pause in talking shit to people, whom you know nothing about, and take consideration in the ideas expressed herein.

So, if you want a freaking forum nazi, because people cannot discuss things in a civil fashion, so be it....    :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: :grrr:
