My late father-in-law was a Marine at Iwo Jima.  He was entering the launch preparing to shove off when a call came through to hold all launches as the beach had been taken. 

When you look back at history, I often wonder ... if that launch had landed, then he quite probably would have not been the father of my ex-wife.  How many lives have been altered throughout history by war, because this one individual lived, or that other individual died.

Makes you stop and think ...
