It's about time the TRUTH is printed.

The media twists the truth so often that it truly is refreshing to see an article like this.

USA Today, I applaud you.

great article

also. this was posted today on USA Today:  http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/letters/2011-04-27-gun-rights-debate_n.htm (http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/letters/2011-04-27-gun-rights-debate_n.htm)

i wish Hawaii was under the same scrutiny as Illinois and Wisconsin for being the TWO states (three including Hawaii) that doesn't allow its citizens to carry.

I need to take the handgun course so I can then apply for my CCW permit and be denied by the Chief's automated response machine.

There are only two - they are IL and Hawaii.  Wisconsin has open carry now.

I would be very happy to teach you handgun course -- msg me at Chris@hawaiidefensefoundation.org  if you are interested.

Having the issue published nationally is a step in the right direction, but not something I'd get excited over. In the end it's an editorial by a pro gun lobby and not enough to draw a spotlight to the matter.

The reason for that is: Hawaii has provisions for CCW and as a "may issue" state, we're not in the same category as Illinois and Wisconsin. In those two states, there is no application process because CCW is simply illegal. So when people say, "48 States in the US allow CCW", we're technically included as part of the count. Apparently having the privilege of applying and being denied is enough.

Yup, got my denial letter from our buddy Chief K hanging on my wall. According to his letter, I do not meet the states reasons to defend myself. Glad I have LEO stationed shortly behind me wherever I may roam.... ::)

yeah i know hawaii can issue them but just doesn't. thats why i threw in my jab at the Chief of Police. In my head, I imagine a small capuchin monkey sitting in his office. Everytime the chief receives a CCW permit request, he rolls his eyes and hands the monkey the request. The monkey then proceeds to send out the already typed rejection letter.  ;D

It would probably surprise you, but most of the denial letters are different =).
