Just designed the suppressor I plan to make.
It's for the 308win . Basiclly, besides buying the material and drilling a few holes. It will be on the back burner for a while.
. The terms “firearm silencer” and “firearm muffler” mean any device for silencing, muffling, or diminishing the report of a portable firearm, including any combination of parts, designed or redesigned, and intended for use in assembling or fabricating a firearm silencer or firearm muffler, and any part intended only for use in such assembly or fabrication.

Always cool seeing the different baffle designs
-
Mono block is just way simpler to machine at home. With a simple drill press.
-
Post up the parts list if you get the time. Could whip you up an Autocad drawing if I had the dimensions.
I am always up for a drill press project. About as close to a machine shop as I am likely to own.
-
That will be cool
Let me work in that tonight and post the numbers in morning.
-
Can you do metric?
I find it so much easier to work with nice whole numbers.
-
I think I got all the demesions .
-
If only Hawaii would make these legal to own here, NFA items are cool.

Autocad does not care, it is independent of measurement regime as long as you are consistent. Does not matter to me, a touch of mental jiggery-pokery and I have the idea of the measurement.

Ok
Let's see what it looks like.

It actually is legal
If it's not for a "portable firearm".
Such as a tank , howitzer , battery gun, etc......
But you'd have to go to court to prove it.
Since HRS prohibites by name "silencers"
But ATF only taxes them on "portable firearms"

After staring at it a while, am starting to wonder if it could be made on a drill press. Looks more like a mill and lathe job to my half-arsed machinist eye. Especially the half moon cuts on the sides. Suppose if I were to try it, might do all the drilling on a piece of 2 inch aluminum square stock and then turn it down on a lathe, but what do I know? Large holes.
Also have an approx. 10 inch bore to be drilled through the center. That is lathe territory I think as the bore has to be concentric with all the rest.
Will draw it up as I see it without further commentary. Maybe if ambitious could try a solid model, but I am very poor at that stuff.

This is based on tooling i already have.
18" long 9.5mm drill bit
28mm drill bits
Carbide deburs
Aluminum is soft and files are really handy too.
Only lathe work would be the 45x1 threads but
A few designs changes and it can fit into any pre fab pipes.
Hell, I made a complete firearm with a hack saw files and a mig welder and registered it with HPD.

Sounds good.
You have a heckuva drill press to be able to use an 18" bit!

Sent an email with a few drawing dimension questions.
-
Do you want this modeled in 3D? I use Inventor with is Autodesks version of 3D...
-
Sure!
Would be great to show thing and have others learn about NFA item.

ATF form 1
Making a firearm form filled out.
Need to get the Sherriff to sign for this one, since it done as an individual and not corporate.
$200 check will be mailed out next week, after cleo sig.

Could you elaborate more on this please?

USC 921(a)24
The terms “firearm silencer” and “firearm muffler” mean any device for silencing, muffling, or diminishing the report of a portable firearm, including any combination of parts, designed or redesigned, and intended for use in assembling or fabricating a firearm silencer or firearm muffler, and any part intended only for use in such assembly or fabrication..
If it's not for a "portable firearm" it does not meet. the difinition of a firearm suppressor under USC thus BATF.
Caselaw:
....claiming the 1919 is a three manned non portable firearm. (Case lost).
A tank with a sound muffling devise attached is not a potable firearm. Thus not taxable.
Remember , the ATF was a tax collection agency under the Treasury Dept before they were transferred to the DOJ

Drawing rev 1
Longer and
Smaller holes.
Due to material stock avaliable.
50.8 mm 304 SS rods
48 mm inner dia. 304 SS Pipes
-
Enlarged expansion chamber.

Haven't forgotten about this...just been out TDY. Leaving again tonight, give me another week. Sorry, sometimes I can't plan what the Army has in store for me from day to day
-
Not a problem,
Take ATF sereval month to get approval anyways.
Thanks.
