Longtime Community Leader and Award Winning Veteran News Cameraman Tracy Arakaki Seeks Election as State House Representative for District 33
Halawa, Hawaii —Mr. Tracy Arakaki announced today that he will run for election as State House Representative for District 33 (Aiea) in 2014.
“I’ve served on the Aiea neighborhood board for nearly 15 years, during which time I’ve worked to facilitate community concerns like zoning and land use issues and delivery of government services.” says Arakaki.
Now, he says he wants to use this experience to help and improve the broader community by serving in the State House of Representatives. “As a lifelong resident of Halawa, I’m passionate about Hawaii’s future and hope to use my voice to make a difference.”
“Tracy has been a tremendous leader on economic development issues in his role as racing promoter, television producer and has been a trusted partner on a number of key initiatives,” said Sterling Luna, owner of Aiea's successful restaurant, 'Dirty Lickins', “I look forward to an opportunity to continue to work together to serve the citizens of Hawaii.”
Arakaki would bring extensive business and leadership experience to the role of state legislator. He spent more than a decade as a award winning television news videographer for two of the state’s network affiliates and was contracted by anothers sports department for the 2010 canoe regatta season, and currently is the executive producer of two cable television shows. “Covering a range of news stories has given me a unique perspective on the community, and how laws and policies affect citizens,” he explains.
In addition to video production, he worked as a racing promoter of the PunishUM Drift Series at the Aloha Stadium from 2006 to 2008. He was the only promoter to bring internationally sanctioned events to Hawaii, a rare occurence which speaks to his tenacity, work ethic, and ability to succeed. He also had a successful screen printing business from 1986 to 2000 before he moved over to the television industry.
Arakaki is no newcomer to politics. He has volunteered on other political campaigns for nearly two decades from stuffing envelopes to being a consultant for their ad campaigns to handling their ads and marketing, and plans to bring this behind-the-scenes experience to his own campaign.
He also has a long track record of community service. Arakaki was on track to join the Honolulu Police Department as part of its 177th recruitment class in 2013, when the opportunity to run for State House of Representatives presented itself. “It is important for me to serve my fellow citizens, and as a legislator, I felt I could make a bigger difference. I have many family and friends who were and still are officers and I have the utmost respect for our police force, and I would still love to work for the department one day.”

Who is he up against?
This is Mark Takai's old seat (he's running for Congress this year). There is currently one other primary opponent per the Office of Elections: Arnold Wong (D). The only other candidate for the district is Robert Helsham (R), who would face the winner of the primary.
