1st off shout out to sec equip corp great service, very informative (and cheap 9mm ;) )
i was there today and was expressing interest in trying to find a 5906 9mm, told him i had a few in mind on gunbroker.
The nice dude helping me told me the 5906 is HPD standard issue (which i didn't know but later dually noted on wikipedia if that is any credible source) and that they will be switching to the glock 17 this year.
:D for me! im looking to get one in nice condition for the right prices ... obviously.
anyone know more about this? when this year they'll start (if they havent alredy) switching over and getting rid of their 5906s? and when ill start seeing them in the classifieds and consignment cases ;) ;) ?
ill post a WTB s&w 5906 in the classified section

I've seen a bunch of Policeman with Glock 17's already, they're easy to spot because the S&W is kinda Brushed Aluminum colored.
-
I hear some of the officers might get a chance to buy the 5906 but no price has been established yet
-
Some of the retiring HPD pistols will be donated to the Samoa police departments.

yup stainless steel frame and slide is what im looking for
the completely blued model exists in the 5904
i prefer stainless steel trigger and hammer too, many of the 5906s have blue trigger and hammer
and preferably squared trigger guard, they started making rounded trigger guards in the later models because it was cheaper

what happens to the ones that the officers dont end up purchasing? ::)

Not that much information here but might help a little.

If I recall correctly Chief Kealoha said he doesn't want to put more guns "on the street"
That's why they're donating them to Samoa's police force.
The powers that be would rather shoot you than let a civilian own another firearm.
"Our fear, especially with what's going on in the states and different
communities, is we put more guns on the street,"
"I don't think that's what we need." (Louis Kealoha)

thanks for the links
ima have to speak with a couple of my cop friends and see if they can cop me one ::)

actaully looks like my chances on gunbroker are looking up, i wont get the square trigger guard for <$500 but i can get a rounded all stainless for $450. a couple sellers offered free shipping on round trig guard models since they cant send 15 round mags here and they dont have 10 round replacements.

In general they do have a small, but devout following. They are reliable but are also boat anchors. Not bad, unless your carrying it all day, every day. Smith and Wesson no longer makes them, nor makes parts for them. If you really want one, go ahead and pick one up from gunbroker if find one you like. Don't hold your breath on getting one from any local source, unless if one pops up due to a personal sale, or if you have a gun shop try to source one for you.
-
Try summitgunbroker.com. Advertising used 5906's for $365. Ask owner to swap 15 rd mags to 10 rd.

I had two and although they were very reliable, the accuracy leaves alot to be desired. My Glock 26 is more accurate even with a much shorter barrel. I personally wouldn't pay more than $200 for one.

Yeah, 'cause the annual firearms report didn't say that despite the record number of firearms registered gun crime hasn't gone up....

I liked mine and found it accurate, dependable and heavy!

and im confident that a gun in my possession is one that aint being misused "on the streets" ?whatever the hell that means? ??? lol the only guns "on the streets" are on LEO belts
anywho, i wont need to wait to come across a local 5906, looking at bidding on a few online all way under $500 :D even trying to work out free shipping since the seller will have to withhold the 15 round mags that they come with :D
i hope the one im bidding on is accurate! lol

I and surely a handful of other members would relish the opportunity to see a classified with pics and price :shaka:
