Title: Had some custom stippling done.
Post by: Kanakamaoli23 on April 29, 2014, 08:35:16 PM
Had a custom pistol grip made by a guy on the mainland. I guess he didn't make the grip. Umbrella corp made it, he stippled it.

Came out better than I expected. You tell him what symbol or design you want, he mocks it up and sends you a pic, you approve and then he stipples it. It got to my house 3 days after I told him what I wanted. Anyone on island do something similar? He already has the grips, so no need to mail him one to stipple. I do have a couple more grips I already have that id like to get done, without sending them away.

That's not too bad considering the grip itself cost $20-25

Do you have a link to his website?

i'd do that for $50 shipped, including the grip
probably my mon (japanese family crest) or last name in kanji
or the imperial japanese flag (rising sun)

He can do anything. He's working on another one for me with the punisher logo to go on my spikes punisher pistol lower that I just applied for this morning!

looked up some info on this umbrella corp grip, its supposed to have a more vertical angle to it, reducing fatigue in the wrist and arm.
how do you like the grip angle?  do u like it better than your original grip?

The first thing I do with any ar I purchase is change out the a2 style grip. The angle of the grip is not perpendicular enough to the reciever. This umbrella corp grip is much more perpendicular to the reciever, making it much more comfortable to shoot. In my opinion, very similar to Magpul moe grip.

PM's replied to.  Due to a huge increase in my full time commitments combined with a backlog of existing work I am not accepting any projects at the moment.  I do however greatly appreciate the inquiries.

The easier, less complicated projects such as this one make great DIY projects and I am very helpful with advice.  Stippling is really pretty easy to do especially on polymers.  The the golf ball dimple style as seen above is the most basic and what everyone pretty much starts out with.  This does not mean that it cannot produce dramatic results.  The downside is that it can be a bit tedious. The image stippling really is impressive but in reality is a very simple project also.  I would consider golf ball dimple stippling with the image as a great and not too complicated of a DIY project.  Get a simple soldering pen or woodburning pen, try out different tips, practice on old A2 grips, Glock ammo loaders, Glock pistol cases, pmags etc...  For image stippling, print  and cut out a template on inkjet vinyl or some address type sticker sheets (vinyl is best).  Make sure the image is not too complex, print it out, stick it to the surface you want stippled and stipple everything around the sticker.  Peel off and your done.
