Title: airgun show off
Post by: stangzilla on April 30, 2014, 11:25:11 AM
these are two of my favorites to shoot right now
the handgun is a Hatsan Supercharger .22, 600 fps
the rifle is a Crosman Quest 800fps, .22

I love shooting airguns
I spend many hours each week just shooting in the back yard and enjoying a cigar, when i cant make it to the range.

show us what you got in your airgun collection!

Sold the Phantom and picked up the Gammo "Whisper".
1,000 fps with lead and 1,200 with PBA.
PBA's are alot more accurate but totally negate the "Whisper"  factor.
But at about $0.10 each, they equal the cost of a decent .22 rnd.

The green rear sights lining up with the red front sight is kinda nice
Came with scope, but I'm a iron sights guy (any body want to buy a scope  ;D).

Umarex Steel Storm
6 round burst BB's
has a blow back action to give it a more realistic recoil-like feel.
it's pretty fun to shoot.

Stang, how do you like your Quest 800? I picked two up at SA a couple of years ago for under a $100 each while SA was having a special. The rifle disappeared from the shelves and was never seen again. Love the rife for what its worth but the scope that came with it leaves a lot to be desired. Thought it was powerful enough to put down a chicken but I was wrong. I hit the chicken and the chicken brushed it off, lifted its middle feather at me and said "F-U!"

Remington NPSS .22 with CharlieDaTuna two-stage trigger (sweet!) and my Weihrauch HW 40 PCA 0.177 (not the Beeman P3) handgun on my shooting table in my backyard.

Been thinking about getting a PCP (FX Revolution semi-auto) .22, but also gotta get a Shoebox (or Omega compressor), scuba tank, portable carbon fiber tank, and, and, and . . . total setup is around 4k  :(  I can dream . . .

Gotta go dig up my Benjamin out of my safe clean it up before I post it   but on that note where is the cheapest place to get .22 pellets from?  Got any shops or website?

Airguns of Arizona. Type the name with .com to get to the site. They have JSB's for a really good price and are willing to ship flat rate so buy a few sleeves to save on the shipping. I gotta post picks of my air guns too; an Edgun Matador .25 and a Benny Marauder .22, I love em both and they are great fun to shoot. My Matador is crazy accurate. Hits a quarter size spinner target again and again at 100yrds.

I have a regulator (scuba hose and yoke assembly) to fill PCP guns by Joe Brancato that I don't need any more; check his site out airtanksforsale.com. Fits any standard scuba tank and can fill your air gun many times. PM if interested. Joe is the man in the air gun world when it comes to filling components for PCP guns.

Pics coming for the air guns.

I usually go to Amazon for pellets or pyramid air

I also like the Crosman quest for what it is, an affordable spring piston.
its not the most accurate.  pretty powerful, but not the most powerful.
what kind of ammo did you use on the chicken?
maybe a heavier pellet or a heavier one with a hollow point might be better.
I get noticable better impact from a heavier hollow point like the Beeman Crow magnum.  (18 grains)

I like Beeman Pellets.  seem to fit better in the barrel.

Ive used the benji to take chickens and other various varmint with the cheap .22 ammo from sports authority think it was crossman pointed in the little orange container.  No issues think the benji shoots inder 600 fps if I recall

Hows the noise on the Nitro vs. the Discovery?

Just got a Discovery with a TKO brake. Not as soft as I thought it would be but a BIG improvement without one! A Discovery without a brake is as loud as a .22LR.
I love mine. Came with a pump which took about 150 strokes to 2k. I got it for $360 shipped from Amazon.

Nitro is much louder.  Disco is not much more than a thump with the TKO.  (Then again, my hearing is shot)

Disco without brake is much sharper and louder.  Would not use it that way in my back yard.

All those claims for reduced noise for the NP are bogus. I diddled the shroud but did not come up with much improvement in sound reduction.  It remains the noiseist airgun I have.

The RWS 48 was about in the same league as the Nitro, the brake mostly took the crack off the sound.  Removing the front sight left an ugly muzzle step, so the brake was mostly cosmetic.

M14 replica
Some parts are interchangeable with real M14 parts.
I got a measured (crono) of 153 m/s or 501 fps.

all the airguns I would want to get cost 2k-3k+ and at that rate, why not just get a Remington 700 with a decent scope?

Because you cannot shoot the remmy 700 in your backyard & it would be like shooting a mosquito with a 308

There are some >$1k airguns I would love to have, but to what purpose?

My current collection got started during the great ammo shortage era.  Got a bit out of hand.

Benjamin Trail NP XL .22, rated @ 1100 fps
my first Nitro piston airgun
its pretty quiet compared to a spring piston
cocking effort is easy
but the gun itself is nearly 10 lbs, and 49 inches long
its the most accurate Crosman or Benjamin that I have shot
