Title: Question on Lightweight Barrels
Post by: BLKDRGN on May 02, 2014, 11:16:02 PM
I have a 16" Noveske Carbon Steel barrel that I got for free. I'm guessing it's around 30oz. I'm looking at a Daniel Defense 14.5" Mid-Length LW and I think it's 25oz. How much weight do you think I can shave off by cutting the Noveske barrel to 14.5"? What about flutting the barrel too? Would it be worth the cost to do this considering the DD is $289 + shipping? I was also told LWRC is very light but I can't seem to find any barrels on their website. This is for my wife so weight is a factor.

Also where can I get a barrel cut, threaded, and fluted?

I kind of asked Wayne at Pacific Custom Rifles the same question a few weeks ago.  It would be cheaper to just buy the DD barrel than to pay him to cut and re crown your Noveske 16".  Depending on how thick the walls are, fluting the barrel may save you some weight while allowing the barrel to cool faster.  You should give him a call, he's a good guy.

No.  It would be better to buy another barrel to your own liking.

I'm sure you could offset the price of the DD by selling the Noveske too.  Always a market for high quality barrels.

I'd be interested in the barrel. Already got the upper and lower.
