LOL at the carefully engineered wording. Gun discharges?! Ya mean it magically went off all by itself when the threatened boy pushed the gun away?! Does FC Kealoha not know how guns work? Hint: The boy pulled the trigger.

Pre-mature rant:
This is what happens when you have a firearm at home and decide to not teach your children firearm safety, and rather keep it as the forbidden object they're not supposed to touch. Unless the boy bought it from his drug dealer. Both scenarios being his parents fault.

^^^Yup kid definitely negligently pulled the trigger.

My money is on the dad not being there and the gun is probably from the mom's current bf.  Kid's in trouble, but the guy really in trouble is the guy who owns that pistol.

Unless it was a stolen gun.

Everyone is quick to blame the gun owner.

Maybe the kid is a little punk who stole it in a burglary.

In the comments section, someone said the kid who brought the gun to school is the son of an HPD officer.

Possible.  Hopefully the truth will come out, however seeing the way most people drive in Hawaii I'm still betting the parent/mom's bf was negligent as well.

I didn't want to say anything, but that's what I was thinking. It's just going to be buried. Hopefully I'm wrong, and whoever did wrong will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Schools should have firearms safety courses for the students.  Kids are curious about guns, and if they are taught how to handle them properly and responsibly, I'd wager these types of incidents would not occur, except for the few kids that don't give a rip any way.  Obviously this kid's folks did not do the education.  Now this kid's life is screwed, all us law abiding gun owners are in for a sh*t storm, and the anti crowd will have the ammo for more bull sh*t legislation.  :(

I don't disagree that firearms education is important, but its not a schools responsibility. That's something that falls upon every owner that has children (or has children around). It's all part of being a responsible parent and gun owner.  Besides, given the state of education and mentality of children these days...would any responsible firearm owner feel comfortable letting a broken system teach their kids? I say any parent that owns a firearm and FAILS to teach their children should: a) not be allowed to own firearms OR b) not be allowed to have children around.

Hopefully the "system" puts blame where it belongs: on the kid and the owner who failed to secure a handgun (whether stolen or not, it should've been SECURED).

Soap box alert

You know what pisses me off?

How the piece of shit "powers that be" charge this kid with attempted murder. Then go on to describe how he was just playing with the gun.

That's bullshit. Drum up some stupid charge just to ruin this kids life.

Almost every adult has made bad decisions in their youth. I myself have made stupid decisions as a "kid", when my mind wasn't fully mature yet. If every time I punched someone in the face I was charged with attempted murder, I'd have a life sentence.

I just think that the drummed up charges just mess up peoples lives.

Now don't get me wrong. I think something is seriously wrong when a kid brings a gun to school but without having been there, I can almost guarantee he just wanted his friends to see the "cool" gun he got. The ND was unfortunate and I honestly am very glad that no one was seriously hurt but because of these charges this kid might be screwed for the rest of his life.

I was reading a story about how some security guards at Ala Moana were trying to wake some guy up who was sleeping in his car. The guy woke up and started driving away. The wannabe super cop security guard jumped in front of the guys car and the guy just kept on driving, albeit at a very slow rate of speed.
Well the guy got away, nobody was hurt but the guard called the police. When the police caught the guy they charged him with attempted murder.

The other day there was a shooting by my house. I was unlucky enough to see the whole thing transpire.

The police were chasing some girl driving a stolen car. She tried to drive away and two police officers started shooting at her.
There were children playing right next to where they started shooting. There never was a time where the LEOs were in danger and there was no need to start shooting.

Well of course it's a justified shooting and everyone goes home happy. (no attempted murder charges)

O.K. I'm off the soap box now.

He should spend a few months in jail - no doubt, but nothing more than a misdemeanor conviction.

Kid deserves anything up to 12 months they throw at him.

The other guy from Magnum was on Hawaii News Now talking firearm safety (http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/category/6743/video?clipId=5882984&topVideoCatNo=91610&autoStart=true).

What it said in the video was that the gun WAS NOT the kid's or his family's gun, but belonged to someone that never reported it stolen.

Stupid ass kid.  That kid should be put up against the wall and shot in the ass with a pellet gun until his cheeks start bleeding.  Then turned around and shot in the nuts couple times so he can't procreate.

LMAO.

Interesting comment regarding teaching firearm safety in schools. I quickly drew parallels to sex education being taught in elementary school.

Haha, i wouldn't doubt it one bit.  I saw the news clip of the interview with brian.  The news anchor said that the police report stated that the gun was discharged after it was knocked out of the kids hand and only went off when it hit the floor.  What a typical movie cliche excuse they used.  With the safe action trigger and firing pin block there's no way that gun would have gone off merely from hitting the floor.

I don't remember much from back then.    But they have a ghetto range in the back by the......what's that thing called where people gather for - OH YEAH - the gym. They have a ghetto range by the gym, but I've never seen it being used. Used to pass it all the time when ditching......

The newspaper/propaganda machine posts a picture with a gun and a statistic saying that there were 16 expulsions due to firearms being brought to school but if you read the article it clearly says that all of the expulsions except for ONE was for toy guns.
