This happened right behind my house. Both were armed 1 with rifle 1 with pistol. One guys held the door open while the other asked tellers for money. Cops all over my neighborhood this morning because the 2 masked men were observed fleeing behind the shopping center which is my neighborhood. Cops came and knocked on everyone door except mines because we have dogs. Anyways I met them outside with my dog because I was woken up by the sirens, radios, and dogs barking and I wanted to know what was going on. I went and checked my backyard and offered to tie up my dogs if they like check. Sounded to me like they were pretty confident that my dogs would have alerted their presence, and they would have, so they never had to check my backyard. Spoke with a few cops briefly. Soon after swat rolled up in a heavily armored HPD vehicle and was re-checking all the houses, checking backyards, opening trash bins. Soon after that they came by with a German shepherd. Thanks to them for doing their job, hopefully they catch the two idiots cuz i dont want that action in my hood...secrets don't last long on this island.

and you absolutely right, secrets don't last long on this island. Only way its gonna stay a secret is if one of the guys kills the other before he can brag about it and that guy doesn't say crap about it ever which is highly unlikely.

being that there was an elementary school right across the street didn't deter these guys.

thanks SOLE and i agree, this casts a shadow of doubt and distrust over my neighborhood and thus, along with these guys STILL on the loose, i fear even beefier hpd presence in my neighborhood. the other day i drove to wendy's to grab a burger and passed by 3 cop cars. wendy's is 1 mile from my house. :-\ :(
also can't believe this happened being that there is a school across the street, st. philomena church and preschool round the corner, and vast navy housing right up the street.
i saw the security camera photos released to the news of the suspects while inside the bank, they looked like light-set dudes, not big guys. One guy's rifle looked as big as him, that is exaggerated opinion tho. Couldnt tell what kind of rifle and handgun they were tho, image is real fuzzy. maybe one of you guys can tell?
I wonder what the guys' accents were like? good english? broken english? its worth pondering... regardless it seems like these guys had it well planned, ski masks and hoodies, the guy with rifle stood by the door while the other with handgun demanded money. Not professional but very cautious and well-planned, they definitely had their outs. creeps me out to think dudes are scoping my neighborhood for outs :'(

its not the first time this location was hit, though it might have been a diner/restaurant at the time but on that occasion the manager was shot dead while the robbers made off with cash... as i have been told. This occurred before i was born which would be sometime before 1988.

They got shitty cameras 'cuz they're federally insured - Why spend the money if you'll get it all back from Uncle Sam anyway?

You know I never got why their cameras are so low res. If I owned a bank I'd put hi res hidden cameras at each teller window. They are really not that expensive.

with so much military personell in the salt lake, moanalua, radford, aliamanu areas...it might be worth looking into. I aint makin accusation on military personnel (after all I've had friends who lived in the moanalua housing areas) but its not too far off. and the housing area seems like a good, secure, well-camouflaged place to hide right under the authorities' noses. possibly some dudes looking for a thrill or strip-club money. might not take it to home plate but im just tryna cover all the bases....no pun intended

I think I would only let it play out, unless MY life it threatened. I think the civil liability would kill you $$ wise in this crazy state.

Depends if I felt that I had the correct training. We all see the two guys with guns, but what if there was an armed accomplice inside the bank texting them the coast is clear, or even an armed lookout outside the bank watching for the popo? What if they had both? Lots to have to consider and size up in a micro second.

Normally, if 2 people in disguise enter a bank, they aren't too worried about being identified by witnesses. They will come in, take the money, and leave.
Starting a gun fight over the bank's money would be a bad decision. But, if the robbers started shooting tellers and managers for whatever reason, then that's a different story. I'd definitely consider my options and best courses of action to prevent employees from being injured or killed. Lots of factors to consider. First thing is, you can't help anybody else if you're dead. Have to be smart enough to not simply add another to the body count with no positive results.
One thing to remember: you are not in control of yourself or the situation. The robbers are in control. No matter what you might think you'd do, your options are going to be limited.

HPD webpage identified the long gun as a shotgun.

Trying to capture a still image from video footage -- always hit-or-miss for quality
So many things to consider, not to mention, the cost to purchase, install, maintain, and upgrade closed circuit camera systems.
In this case, there's not much chance of identifying 2 masked robbers, but it does demonstrate to other would-be criminals a major flaw in the security systems.
If I owned a bank, I'd have 200 cameras installed in plain sight and a few more hidden! Not all visible cameras would be recording, but the robbers wouldn't know that!

i would not, they werent there to hurt anyone, just bout the money, garanteed only in and out, aint worth starting a firefight especially 1 ccw vs 2 armed, aint worth starting a gun fight risking innocent people's lives inside the bank just to find out who they were.

detectives came by today questioning my neighbors, i spoke with one briefly.
The following is my personal speculative opinion, there are a lot of "ifs" and "buts" that follow, i obviously do not know the details that the authorities know about the robbery, but based on the surveillance photos and the news:
Without giving away too much info (cuz who knows, they could be reading these forums) the authorities believe that the suspects may have taken refuge in one of the homes here. Of course this is one of the bases that they are surely required to cover. My personal speculative opinion, taking into account the suspects' planning and apparent discipline shown in the mere and fuzzy surveillance photos, is that they took advantage of the security of my neighborhood, shielded from the main road of salt lake blvd, and met a get away vehicle in my neighborhood and drove off right after the robbery. It may just so happened that werent any of my neighbors out to witness them running thru my street and seeing and getting a description of a get-away vehicle. By now, even IF they took refuge in an accomplice house in my neighborhood (and even this is a long shot) they are long gone out of this neighborhood by now over the night. This neighborhood was swarming with five-0 yesterday and there are some here today along with the detectives, those suspects would not linger around here. I was kind of discomforted that there wasnt a patrol car stationed in my neighborhood thru last night, at least not that I seen, its a one way in one way out of my culdesac with a vehicle, and one would have to go thru someone's backyard to get out of here on foot. With their such high suspicions that they may have took refuge in one of these homes why werent any patrols stationed here thru the night? ???
I didnt ask the detective many questions and did not divulge my personal opinions on what may or may not have occurred, after all they are the ones who are supposed to ask questions right? I would rather the cops just do their job the way they do it...but bottom line is that they are not exactly garnering much confidence from me as a concerned citizen of salt lake, being that they are still stuck in my neighborhood, stuck where they were searching all of yesterday. With every hour that passes it will be tougher to track the bad guys...hopefully someone knows something and would be willing to break silence on the crime. :thumbsup: crimestoppers is offering up to $1000 on info that leads to an arrest. what does this say about the amount that was taken?

Couple things. I looked into buying a camera for streaming purposes for a friend and I checked into security cams because they can usually operate without being connected to a comp...well, most security cams are expensive and low res, like, 360 and 480 were common options. I suspect this is because they are designed to record days of footage at a time and anyone who works with video knows just how much 1080p files will take up in storage.
2, I can't look at the photos on my phone, but, who's to say they are even real guns? If the photos are as bad as you say? What if they used airsoft guns. Most people would never know the difference in the bank, and it would be hard to differentiate a quality airsoft gun with a real one from crappy photos

Not unlike Hong Kong, many of the banks had armed security at the front door and inside as well; even some of the jewelry stores had armed security outside the front doors and inside watching customers. By armed I do not mean pistols on the hip either, these guys had semi-auto maybe full auto rifles at the ready hanging of their chests. Not sure what they had for sure it was a long time ago that I was there.

Can someone confirm that the minimum sentence for brandishing a firearm during a bank robbery? I found this, but I'm no lawyer and not sure if what I found is accurate. There two are looking at 17 years worth of federal detention time - 10 for the bank robbery + 7 for brandishing their firearms.
