What is your bump in the night gun.

This is a picture thread, so show and tell.

My cheap-ass 12gauge Mossberg Maverick. If I ever end up having to shoot an invader, I don't want the cops taking one of my expensive guns.

^ That is a very cool rack Blue Smoke.  A custom build or did you buy that someplace?

Not only the rack, but the shotgun too. Is that an 11-87?

NM, I read in the other thread it is a Benelli M1 Super 90

My quickest reach is for my SIg P228.  In the corner is Rem 870.

THE FLAT STEEL IS 1/8'X1-1/4"

Is there enough counterweight on that thing so when you jump on the bed it doesn't toss your gun in the air? Is there any rattle? In other words, is it noticeable? I don't think it will pass the committee if it's so noticeable it starts bothering her.

Clearly this should be an amendment to a bill and not go through committee!

I'd say try executive order, but that may end up in an impeachment :)

They eventually give it back, but still...smart.

Hrmmm not to "poo-poo" a nice set up, but I don't think that would work for people with kids. And unless of you only keep it that way when at home/in bed, it's not exactly responsibly secured. <----just something I'm adamant about.

As for me, I don't believe in just a "night stand" gun. The majority of home invasions take place when occupants are awake and doing things around the house.
SO I keep kitchen and bathroom guns also (all secure but accessible in under 3 seconds).

Re: cheap vs expensive/police evidence.

that is the standard answer of gun shop owners and those who try look for a reason to justify the purchase of a $3000 semi production 1911.  Of course cost is not an option when it comes to defending your life....only reliability.  But there are many "reliable" guns that are considered "less expensive" in the $250-$500 range.  Why not use a cheap reliable gun to defend yourself with since it's guarenteed that you will have to surrender it to the police while they investigate rather than an expensive reliable gun that might get damaged/dinged up while in their possession.  It maybe the last thing you're worried about while there's an assailant standing in front of you, but what about after the incident and they end up holding your gun for 7 months...or when the cops give back your gun and you find a big scratch on teh side of your wilson combat (or sig or hk or nighthawk custom or whatever)?  Dunno bout you, but i'd be pissed.

I agree somewhat. If your expensive 3k 911 was right next to you ready to go are you gonna drop it and try to run to the other room to grab a cheap reliable gun if you had to defend yourself though? If theyre both in the same place id grab whatever one i was more comfortable with reguardless of price

I guess.  If you're lazy or live in a large 2 story house, you could keep guns in multiple rooms.  I live in a 2 bedroom condo.  Pretty easy for me to pick my gun up and move it if i'm moving locations within my condo.  Usually i'm at my computer.  So my gun sits on my desk.  If i go to the bathroom or the bedroom, it goes with me.  This is what i'm willing to do in order to NOT have to use my $1000 - $1300 guns as a defensive weapon.  If you're not willing to do that or if handing an expensive gun over to the police is not a concern of yours, by all means use what you have at your disposal.  As long as it is reliable.

I use my Glock 19 and WInchester 1300; both are boringly reliable and inexpensive, no worries if they do some time in an evidence locker.
