I found this chart that will give the numbers straight across. Lower gun ownership rates do not equal lower murder rates. Too bad it's a story based upon a VPC press release. What's their news for DC?

Totally cherry-picking, half-truths and lies by the Violence Policy Center (VPC), formerly known as the National Coalition to Ban Handguns. Headed by Josh Sugarmann, publicly avowed "incrementalist" and inventor of the term "assault weapon", complete with public explanations of how intentionally confusing the uninformed public into believing that semi-automatic rifles are fully automatic "machine guns" was, and is, an ethical strategy (apparently lying is justified when the facts are against you).
This "study" uses 14 year old data, uses the term "gun deaths" in order to obscure the fact that nearly 2/3 of those deaths are suicides, and no accounting at all is made for justifiable homicides by civilians or law enforcement. Why would they want to obscure those facts?
In Japan it is virtually impossible for civilians to own firearms, yet the suicide rate is nearly THREE TIMES that of the United States. Where's the VPC research demonstrating the causality or even correlation between gun ownership rates in Japan and the United States and the by far leading category of gun deaths, suicide? Didn't think so. Liars.
Let's compare the gun murder (excludes justifiable homicide, suicide, and accidental deaths) rates of Vermont and Hawaii. Hawaii is rated as one of the "strictest" states for gun acquisition and CCW. Vermont has "Constitutional Carry", and no permits or licenses are required to acquire or openly or conceal carry firearms in that state. Vermont has over SIX TIMES as many gun owners, per capita, as Hawaii. Hawaii's gun murder rate is 67% HIGHER than Vermont. Comparing percentage of gun owners and gun murder rates, Hawaii has comparatively TEN TIMES as many gun murders as Vermont. Where's the VPC study demonstrating causality, or even correlation between gun ownership rates, "gun control" laws, and gun murders using the Hawaii and Vermont data? Didn't think so. Liars.
Too bad no one commenting on the newspaper website has some hard data to post. I'm not a subscriber, which is required to post comments. Another instance of the ignorant, uninformed and/or biased media being willing to publish absolute garbage without any sort of fact checking at all.

Well, something about Hawaii works for gun safety. Its not necessarily the lack of access to weapons. Not around here, anyway. I quote my neighbor who's ammo and weapons stash is in the room right next to my driveway; "Da house catch on fiyah? Run."
I do believe the state with the least gun deaths is Vermont.
That comparison alone should tell you that gun control laws are NOT the deciding factor in the amount of gun deaths.
