From guns you currently own, if you could take only one rifle and pistol into a SHTF/TEOTWAWKI scenario.
You can't carry multiple uppers, just one complete rifle and one complete pistol.
-
For me it would be my VEPR 7.62x39 and my Glock 22
-
AR15 and 1911.
-
G19 and arsenal slr.
Curious KK, why vepr over say a sam7r? Stronger than a stamped ak but lighter than a milled one?
-
AR15 and 1911.
+1
I would rock the above also but maybe would substitute the AR15 for my SKS
-
Well I don't have a rifle yet, but I would take my Glock 17 and my Mossberg TR500.
-
G19 and arsenal slr.

My VEPR is scary accurate, and 100% reliable.

Daniel Defense AR-15 and Springfield XDM45.

I'd carry my AR15 and XD45 but you probably already knew that. :)
-
I'll play, not taking ammo availability into consideration/factor-
AR15 and HK45.
-
My HiPoint Carbine and Pistol Less than $400
I can afford to lose them
-
I'd take my 10.5" AR pistol upper and put in on an AR rifle lower, Glock 22
-
Remington 700 270 win & Glock 23
-
Prolly my scoped .308 Ruger American Rifle, and Sig 220 would be most useful in a general SHTF scenario. But depending on the situation there are other considerations I might make.

My home defense go to is a cheap ass Maverick pump 12 gauge for that very reason. I can afford to have it confiscated by the cops if I ever have to use it. I'm not sure if cost is a consideration in a SHTF scenario though.

There are many highly effective combinations of firearms that would more than adequately serve the purpose. The reality is that the more important piece of the puzzle will come down to the mindset, training, preparation and survival skill of the user as opposed to the actual tool itself. The even more sobering truth is that there are many who think they possess the required skill sets and firepower and might also think they would do well among the masses of the herd. The reality is that most of those "prepared" individuals are still severely lacking in ability when compared to the true meat eaters who exist out there and would not stand a chance if things got really ugly. They would only become a prime target and a source of re-supply.
Many will not like this answer, but it would become the truth in a true "end of days" type of scenario.

My Tavor and Glock 17. Tavor over my AR-15 since it's shorter in case I have to clear rooms and hallways. Glock 17 cause it's more reliable than my 1911's and I can hold more ammo since it's 9mm double stacked.
My wife said her AR-15 cause it's lighter and easier to charge. Mags are interchangeable with my Tavor so that's a plus. Then she picked her 1911 cause it's the most accurate.
-
Pistol: G17 >>> if lawlessness abounds, I'll be searching for some unblocked 17 rd mags, too!
Rifle: Ruger 10/22 Takedown w/red dot scope >>> it might not bring down a big boar or antelope, but it's more concealable, more portable, and quieter than my other rifles.
To me, this offers self defense (9mm primary, .22LR secondary) as well as a versatile rifle for hunting small game.

I'm reminded of the walking dead scene where leader of the band of men has Rick in a bear hug, and asks Rick, "what are you gonna do now sport?" Right before Rick bites his throat out. The SCARIEST thing about that show is not the zombies, it's the people in a world without order.

Since you brought it up :)
If I'm not mistaken, quite a few of the survivors from the prison died last season, but not one was killed by a walker.
Something to ponder...

AR-15 and Beretta Neos .22LR pistol
Although I love my bolt guns, I guess it's not about sentimentality in TEOTWAWKI
And 22 pistol is accurate enough for hunting small game semi-quietly. ( or whatever else might need to be done semi-quietly )
Or maybe a .357 lever gun and a .357 revolver and I could walk around the hood like the new sheriff in town until I get wacked. :shake:
-
My FNH FNS9 is my go to, I NEED a rifle though.
-
ar15 and maybe a browning HP.
I would take a glock 9mm if I had one.
-
Glock 17 and LMT AR15.
I also agree on the training and maintenance of training. I've been lax in the latter, but hoping to get more back into it. I thought I knew quite a but until taking classes specifically for pistol and carbine. Many times the lessons are little things, but they can make a big difference. It's really eye opening how your body and mind reacts under stress.

sam7r and glock 17

What Surf said is a great reality check.
I was at Honolulu Range with dirtylickins when he put me through some handgun drills. While I shoot really well with my gun at the KHSC pistol target range, doing the drills with a different handgun and different tempo made me realize that I need to practice differently (defensive shooting) and to practice a lot more. After dirtylickins showed me a few things, my shooting improved quite a bit. Thanks for that, dirtylickins!
If Hawaii ever got into a real SHTF situation, I probably would not go roaming around and hope that law enforcement and all four branches of the armed forces gets involved in getting EROL in place sooner than later. In the meantime, I would get my family and neighbors coordinating with authorities (see CERT) and involved in maintaining peace and order for our section of town.
Okay, back to the original thread topic...

Simple question, why so much pontificating?

Glock 17 (Gen 4) and Arsenal SGL 26-61.

Simple question, why so much pontificating?
Simple question in your mind perhaps, but the truth of what I said remains. Problem is that most people fit exactly into the category mentioned by mauidog and discussion of that can be valuable to many who don't consider such things enough. I guess another thread could be started, but I answered the initial question. I see so much useless bickering on this forum over nothing that goes on for pages, yet I feel that this is a genuine consideration directly related to the topic of this thread and it seems to bother you. If it annoys you or if I come across as pompous, feel free to ignore it. Simple enough.

IMO there are many good threads that touch on this subject in the preparedness and survival area of this forum. Another thread there would be cool as I like to read about others opinions on this topic.

BCM AR15 and Glock 22
Pistol is subject to change after I shoot more rounds through a S&W M&P9.

I notice a lot of people favor the ar15/glock combo.

The loaded one....

I never flaunted anything, nor did I make any personal claims in regards to preparedness, mystical powers or combat. Not sure how serious discussion about what could be a truly serious topic is not entertaining. Anyone who thinks that they have enough preparation are kidding themselves and I am not kidding myself. On the other end, those who think that just because they own an AK and a Glock with little practical training and think they are good to go, are also kidding themselves.
No harm, no foul, and it can go into another thread so we can get back to the apocalyptic weapon masturbation.
Scar 17 or Noveske N6 with magnification. Glock 21 or 17.

I change my mind.
For my pistol I'd think about sawing off my double barrel o' justice and doing some Mad Max shit !
( Of course we on the forum never violate the law and this is purely in the name of fun and firearm masturbation ;D )
we can get back to the apocalyptic weapon masturbation.

As simple a question as this is, am I the only one that has a hard time making a decision?
Like asking which kid you would take.....Damn you KK!
I love all my children! Either we all go or not. Nobody gets left behind........that includes you my little Titan 25 auto......love that temperamental pot metal little bastard.......
It'd be cool to kick it Euro though........STG58 and akimbo cz82's

I could just as easily go FN crazy and take my SCAR 17 & my FNX tactical 45 and be very happy.
I could take my REPR AND HK P30 40 and never look back.
Honestly, the combinations are many and they're all great choices, but I chose what I did because of weapon familiarity and ammo cost.
-
a MP5 (9mm)
and
a Jerico 941 (9mm)
one type of ammo is best.
and I'm not worried about paying NFA taxes at that time.
-
Very cool, suka.
A Kriss Super V (45ACP) with a Glock 30 (45ACP) and lots of Glock 21 mags would be a very good load out too.
Or a Keltec 9mm Sub2000 / Glock 19 combo.
Or a Keltec .40 Sub2000 / Glock 23 combo.
Or an 1873 Winchester lever action rifle and an 1873 Colt Single Action Army in .44-40? :D
Would anyone consider a suppressed 22LR rifle / pistol combo in SHTF/TEOTWAWKI?

Meh, you give up range with most of those combos.
I'll stick with a proven combat rifle.
-
True. Pistol carbines would be limited by the effective range of ammo. 100 yards max?

Agreed. Too short range.
Re:Ammo. You also putting all your eggs in one basket.
Here is an observation...nobody chose the m9/berreta 92.
After all, it is the standard US military pistol.
-
I made my choices long ago....
I choose M16A2 and Beretta M9. I carried them around for enough years. I mastered shooting M16A2 to 600yds and M9 to 50 yds. 5.56mm NATO and 9mm NATO is universal arround the world, I got all the matching accessories and fashionable add -ons. A bunch of countries have standard issue rifles that use M16 compatable magazines.
I spent 40 years learning that the AK was the weapon of choice of the bad guys. I figure that there is a good part of the planet that kinda believes the same. I dislike getting shot at, but it really sucks to be shot at because of mistaken identity.
I figure if I really need an AK there would be a bunch of them laying on the ground after I empty my last M16 magazine.
