From "Firearm Registrations in Hawaii, 2013" at: http://ag.hawaii.gov/cpja/files/2014/04/Firearm-Registrations-in-Hawaii-2013.pdf (http://ag.hawaii.gov/cpja/files/2014/04/Firearm-Registrations-in-Hawaii-2013.pdf)
Licenses to Carry Firearms
Hawaii’s county police departments also process license applications for the open and/or concealed
carry of firearms in public. Statewide in 2013, 205 employees of private security firms were issued
carry licenses, and two were denied. Seven private citizens applied for a concealed carry license in the
City & County of Honolulu; all were denied by the chief of police. One private citizen applied in Kauai
County and was approved by the chief.
All I can get from the Chief of Police of Hawaii County is that "as to the number of "Concealed" permits I have personally issued during my tenure as Chief, the answer is none."
Of course I asked several questions other than just how many CCW permits he has "personally" issued (which I never specifically limited my questions to, as that is an obvious weasel-word way to avoid stating whether a designated and authorized subordinate of his had issued any permits. There being rumors and claims that people have received permits, mostly either former LEO or former military.). I asked how many were currently active. How many have been issued by Hawaii County Police Department, during the current or prior administrations, etc. I have to wonder why the chief doesn't want to be simply honest and forthcoming and answer the questions clearly and simply. Surely he must know, or be able to quickly and easily find out if there are any outstanding CCW permits in the County of Hawaii... or have they "lost" that information on a crashed hard drive/server? :wtf:

Appendix/Notes section (page 15) reads: "GAO says zero permits. Legally Armed says 183 security guards in 2010. http://www.hawaiireporter.com/hawaii-firearms-registrations-reach-record-high-after-70-percent-jump/123 (http://www.hawaiireporter.com/hawaii-firearms-registrations-reach-record-high-after-70-percent-jump/123)"
Yup, that should be Open Carry/Private Security permits.
