Interested in bringing the wife to this. How does it work at the fair? Reading the flyer it sounds like you buy script, then use X amount of script to shoot which ever firearms are available. Is this about right? Sorry never been, so kinda would like to know what to expect... :shaka:

Yep, that's pretty much it. Each venue (Cowboys, HRA, HHAA, etc.) determines the value of the script and you use the script to buy the ammo for the gun(s) you want to shoot. It is, IMHO, a great way to introduce those who are a bit hesitant to try to the shooting sports.

Alright, sounds good! Took her to shoot pistols before, and only thing she was comfortable shooting was the Mosquito .22. The USP .40 was a bit too snappy for her, P226 9mm was way to wide for her hands, and she was intimidated by the .45 1911. So I'm looking at this as an opportunity to let her try a large variety of firearms. Hopefully she'll find something that feels comfortable for her...

I'm also bringing my wife and son.... I'm gonna get my 2 girls into firearms one day also... They're 7 & 9, so real soon..can't wait.. I know the 9yr old can shoot 22lr at the range by now but she doesn't know that yet.... I don't want the 7yr old to feel left out.. The 7yr old is "GAME", she nags me the most to go shoot.... ;D

Sounds good HiCarry. Yeah it's been kind of hard finding her something within my collection. Another problem is that she doesn't have the hand strength to actually rack my USP (my HD firearm). Now I'm sure if someone were actually breaking into the house, the adrenaline would start pumping and she’d be able to get the pistol loaded (I keep a full mag loaded, but the chamber empty). But it’s not something I’m willing to bet her or my life on…
My Uncle has a nice Lady Smith in .38 that she thought felt comfortable, so we may end up going the revolver route for her. Of course I’ll need her to get some range time on it first to see if she feels comfortable shooting with it. Only drawback I have is the DA of the hammerless revolver, not sure how she’ll like that….

You should reconsider taking both your girls...7 may seem young, but it she's got the physical ability & right mindset, it's really not. I started both my boys as soons as they grasped the concept that guns aren't toys. That was around 6/7 years old. They started with air rifles/pistols to establish the fundamentals & safe handling, then on to .22's (MKII & 10/22). The way I see it, children learn so fast at that age, it's easier to establish a solid foundation for whatever you want to teach them. :thumbsup:

For your consideration, especially for a HD gun versus a carry gun, is a larger, not a smaller framed revolver. The additional mass of the gun will reduce the perceived recoil. As long as the grips are comfortable, most women that fire the SO's GP101, even if using .357, don't find the recoil too much for them. Most are surprised by the relative lack of recoil. For semiautos the SO likes the M
&P because of the adjustable backstrap as well as the relatively light recoil spring (easier to rack...) and better slide serations. She also likes the Sig 239 because of the single stack magazine (smaller grips) and it seems to be a little easier to work the slide for most. See you at the range.

??? Will the fair take up the whole range? Or will the "Rifle Side" be open to shoot our personal rifles? Sounds like an unnecessary question being that there will be a lot of awesome guns there to shoot but I was just wondering.... ???

The handgun, rifle and silhouette range will be open although there will be a few of the rifle lanes occupied by folks participating in the SSF

Just an FYI - due to rules at Kokohead and liability concerns, children under 7 will not be able to shoot "real" guns.
Here's the breakdown on age limitations:
8 and under - archery and air rifles
9 to 12 - .22 cal, archery and air rifles
13 - 17 - anything with adult supervision
18 and up - anything

I remember a while back when I asked the "Range Warden" at what age can the young ones shoot.. He said that "8yrs and younger "CANNOT" shoot, 9-14yrs can shoot 22lr, 15 and up can shoot anything." end quote..lol.. Web site rulez>>

Had a lot of fun today. Brought a couple of friends along who had never shot a gun before. Unfortunately could not stay nearly as long as I had planned because my friends made plans to go elsewhere. There were tons of people there, I was shocked. Hard to get much shooting in because the lines were so long. :O
I was surprised at all the expensive custom guns that were available for shooting. I had figured on there being some nice guns, but expected to see some junky ones as well for the general public to abuse. =D

Was plenty fun, family shot up $100 worth of tickets. Young boy in front of me caught a barrel in the forehead shooting the deagle .50... never phased him, he was all smiles anyway. Was pretty funny watching my wife try to keep an M1 Garand elevated down range, she's sporting a bruise on her shoulder this morning.

I've been battling my Senior English course all night for the past two days; I did a project but the teacher put some really stupid requirements in the grading criteria that made me almost start over from scratch. Sucks ass I missed the whole thing. :(

I had fun today. Lines were a little long, but to rapid fire an ak was worth it. Tried skeet for the first time. Shot all 8, now I'm hooked. Might change my plans on the shotty I'm going to buy.

It was a great time today! Brought my daughters and let them fire the 22s. The youngest was begging for a rifle all the way home.

Had the most fun this weekend I've had in a while. Much mahalos :shaka: to everyone involved in putting on this event. Got several ARs and I can't believe saturday was my first time shooting an AK,don't know what took me so long. it will definately be my next rifle :thumbsup:

My pleasure. I am glad she liked it and hopefully got to try a few others that might be a better "fit" for her. Sorry I couldn't spend more time with you or have more "girl" guns for her to try.

My wife, son and I went on Saturday.. She didn't want to go to the fair.. She wanted to shoot at the rifle side all day... Thats all cool with me... :thumbsup: I brought the AK's and her AR just in case... ;)

Luckily my wife loves to shoot.
She doesn't care how many guns I buy either.
Now if I could just convince her to let me have a live-in girlfriend, all will be good.
