Title: Cheap shell deflector
Post by: s197 on July 21, 2014, 10:41:14 AM
Not the kind on the gun but something to keep hot brass from hitting the guy next to me.  I don't want to shell out $50 for a brass catcher since I don't reload.  So far I haven't had an issue with hitting anyone but after I took some hot brass to the neck last time I was at the range I thought maybe I should put up some kind of barrier just so I don't do the same to someone else.  I seen someone use a piece of cardboard in a /\ shape, figure I could do that but thought I would ask if anyone has a better idea.

What Macsak said. Go to walmart and buy a $6 dive bag for the netting. Slip the bag over the pvc frame. Frame can be designed to lay on its side for rifle and stood upright for pistol. I use a clamp/vice to immobilize the deflector.

Thanks to both of you.  I'll see if I can find the dive net.  I'll probably use wood since my Dad's house has choke laying around.  I just got to figure out the right clamp to immobilize it.

You can even go much more low tech, and rig up something with a handheld net and clamps.

Get one of those cheap collapsible clothes hamper/baskets from Walmart or target and lay it on its side on the edge of the bench top with an ammo can in it to weigh it down.

Get a cheap net from walmart. Use pvc or something for the base. I took mine to the next level so it will work for any angle whether standing or sitting. I also used some cheap wire to hold the net open.

I use these....

I like them because unlike all metal clamps, they won't mark up the benches at KHSC.

Yep.  That's what I'm thinking of using!
