There’s a new semi-automatic handgun on the horizon for the Army that U.S. consumers may have access to almost immediately. When that happens, America’s emergency rooms better be prepared for the carnage that’s likely to follow.

Based on the info in the article, they are looking at the increase in injuries starting about 1980.

Guess what?  The Gun Control Act of 1968 made the sale of Saturday Night Special handguns illegal, because the short-sighted law makers saw stats that the majority of handgun shootings involved these cheap, small caliber (.25 caliber range), and easily concealed handguns.

Unintended consequence:  With the cheaper SNS guns outlawed, buyers began purchasing the larger calibers, primarily the 9MM.  Fewer shooting victims survived the more lethal effects of the newer guns and ammo.  On top of that, many low income individuals could not afford the better guns, making them less able to defend against violence.

All in all, that law caused an increase in gun deaths by banning a type of firearm.

To use that particular study in 1980 for this new issue is absurd.  Contrary to the author's insinuation, not every gun owner rushes to the store every time a new product hits the display case!

...with the obvious exception of BLKDRGN!

Was that last jab really necessary ? ???
(Should be read as " Why you gotta be a dick ?" but I'm a civil guy )

( Although I know you were poking fun, I'm sure you're aware of what's been going on in other threads Mdog. )

And they still sell Saturday night specials, they're called hi-points !

First, 3/4 of what people post on these threads is not "necessary".  Was your comment about my comment necessary?   >:D

As for the SNS ban,

Quote
The Gun Control Act of 1968 banned the importation and manufacture of many Saturday-night specials made and sold in prior years, most notable a large number of revolvers made by Röhm (RG).

So, newer SNS-type guns avoid the restrictions having changed one or two features or materials.

Doug, don't start degrading again. You were doing so well ( and you're already onto your 3rd forum name )

And you took my hi-point comment seriously ?  SERIOUSLY !  It was just a joke.

I take few things seriously, but I like discussing facts about the topics.

Like this "Doug" thing.  A couple people have started using this name for me, and I don't know what it means.  I figured it was some inside joke, so I just ignored it.  Is this some pop-culture character I haven't heard of?

I thought the blkdrgn reference was funny because it tied in with the other threads about him buying (and reselling) more gun stuff than most on here seem to do.  In your own words, "And you took my ... comment seriously??"

If you have to explain it, it's already not funny!

Dude, I don't know why you have been busting my chops, but you really need to grow up.  I don't remember saying anything rude to you.  You just started in on me for no reason.

What's your problem?  Just bored, or what?

You are right.  Sorry.  I forgot about the Prime Directive.  As the wise man "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" once said, "Dude I don't know why you have been busting my chops......."

I don't know, man.  Everyone else makes stupid jokes on the majority of threads here, and it's fine.  I post a couple of sarcastic jokes (all in good fun, obviously), and suddenly I'm being "degrading"????

  :wtf:
