So Im at the range today, and im within ear shot of few guys Filming for a youtube channel. They are shooting shotguns, an ar-15, and a 270 bolt action rifle. Their shotgun are completely decked out with a tri rail foregrips, receiver mounted side saddle, AND a buttstock side saddle. Immediately Im starting to think Im surrounded by mall ninjas. Im hearing them talk about shooting tactics, "tactical movement" and i cant help but laugh. One guy claims his AR is built "for fast movement." Here is a description of it along with his commentary. Its a 16" upper, which apparently is free floated because "A free float 7" handguard is way more accurate then a regular handguard." He has a bipod mounted to the barrel. He has a mono pod attached to his butt stock. The top of the gun is fitted with flip up rear sight, red dot magnifier and a RMR. How can someone claim their gun is built for movement when they have all this crap bolted on it??? And why would someone preach about free floated handguards when they still attach crap directly to the barrel??? Asinine. The best part about the entire trip to the range today was listening to them talk. They sure did sound like they knew what they were talking about, probably heard it from other people, because their gear completely contradicts what they were trying to say. I cant help but laugh

I hear ya. However, the same can be said for feedback people offer in online forums. When I first found gun forums, a staff member at one site mentioned to "try to find the signal within the noise" and that you have to try to figure out for yourself who are the ones that spew noise the majority of the time. Same thing for Youtube videos, as you probably noticed. It's easy to spew noise and regurgitate what one hears on the internet, from friends, gun shops, etc. I try to find people to share their personal and relevant experiences.
-
Agreed. Forums are full of all kinds of noise. When Im interested in a firearm, or optic I generally spend about a month or so looking into it. I will check out youtube videos, and forums, all looking for different user experiences. I will spend some time in the gun shops seeing if they are comfortable to hold (Firearm) or if the glass is clear, and lets in good light etc... I will google search different items and include the words problems, or issues to see if I can determine if there are any flaws with a firearm or optic. The noise gets loud, and the bs can get deep. You have your dedicated "fanboys" for every manufacturer, that seem to enjoy nothing more then to spend time talking trash about other manufacturers. But once you can sift through the bs, good info can be found

wait, you mean some people on youtube and online and in person are full of crap?

Aw man... I must've been on the wrong side of the range

Interesting, are you sure these guys were not making fun of the whole "Tacticool" phenomenon thing that goes around youtube? I say let people do as they please. Remember its Murica! :shaka:

"try to find the signal within the noise"
That makes the classic 2A member quotes.
-
I used to have a (sarcastic)saying...." If it's on TV it must be true"
Today...."If it's on the internet, it must be true"
Jus' keepin' up with the times!
When I was in high school, my social studies teacher had a saying, "keep your crap detectors turned on all the time."

Thanks. However, I should give credit to the guy who is responsible for it, at least introducing me to it. He's a staff on another gun forum and much wiser, more experienced, all the good stuff. I left that gun forum behind and I believe that guy left as well.
In any case, I guess I can take credit for bringing that saying to 2AHawaii. . . ;D

But in all seriousness, I dont have a problem with what people do or add to their firearms, to each his own. I was talking more about the misinformation and contradiction. And with that being said, I would like to applaud people within the tacticool crowd for their help in keeping gun shops open, after all, those tactical upgrades are not free
-
I think that if you came across "dynamic pie concepts" at the range filming a video, you would be well aware that they were making a spoof

Dynamic Pie Concepts is pure gold

I agree. Your gun, do what you want. Doesn't matter to me. I've heard ALL sorts of stuff being spewed at the range and in general, I don't say a thing. I just smile and keep to myself. Ask me, and I'll share my thoughts and experiences. However, it seem that there are often those who just spread nonesense at best and sometimes even things that could end up getting someone hurt.
The tacticool crowd also can be a good resourse for used equipment, maybe even cheap! ;D

WTF is dynamic pie?
I have heard of "slicing the pie" but, does this new kind of pie move around or what?!

"Dynamic Pie Concepts" is a youtube channel

For those who really have a clue, it is extremely easy to spot those who do not whether it be online forums, youtube or in person. As mentioned above, I tell people there is a lot of very good information out there but you often have to sift through tons of garbage to find the good bits of information. However this often makes it difficult for the new comer to find out what is good and what is BS. Unfortunately most of the information being passed along via the www. is regurgitated BS. Kinda like the telephone game where you pass something on and what comes out the other end is a very contorted version of the first story. There are a ton of firearm sites with a plethora of self proclaimed "experts" and no lack of youtube channels. there are however on a few that are worth anything when it comes to high quality information.
As an example I was an early participant on youtube. I knew of all the main players at that time, who still have popular channels. One of the frustrating things is that a few of the channels (some very popular today) would post a very similar video to mine right after I posted a topic. The downside was that it was apparent that those individuals did not completely understand the underlying concepts and the original content got a bit twisted. This is just one simple example of the true "signal" starting to get lost in the "noise" so to speak. The downside is that there are so many on youtube and only a few that are worth the time to watch.
However if one wants to be popular on youtube there is a known recipe. Be a member of many forums and flood them all with your youtube video's when you make a new one. Be controversial in the video's just for the sake of it and even start wars between forums. Any feedback good or bad is bringing in viewers. Be a character and appeal to the airsoft crowd. Blow up fruits and vegetables and colored bottles of liquids. Talk about and shoot zombies. Do a lot of "reviews" and sound like you know what your talking about. #1 Have good looking women with guns on the channel, or just be an average looking woman with guns on youtube despite any true knowledge and you will be successful. Unfortunately I did not do any of these things mentioned but rather stuck to basic but solid content / information that can make you a successful youtube channel. But for those who take this route, you had better really know your shit as it will get called out quickly and you will be shown as a hack if you don't truly know your topic. Being comedic is a hard line to follow and none do it better than the guys out of Cali and Dynamic Pie Concepts.

Like someone says I'm the biggest noise maker here......LOL
I'm full of it and I know it! Now move on......
I over heard a guy at the range tell his friend the reason for full float so the barrel is floating in the handguard and the bullet has less stress going don the barrel......HUH?

They teach high speed low drag real life scenario tactical training.

+1
The install vids on YouTube are usually the more helpful ones.

Yeah. I say go for it!
I wasn't trying to talk anyone out of doing a video or saying that they have to be an expert to do one. The internet is full of TONS of useful information and it is (or has become) that way because of people like you who see a need and are willing to take the time to put something together!

What? So are you saying that it is not true? Doesn't the bullet go faster if the barrel is free floated? ::)
-
Yah! It has less stress so less friction right? So it should fly out faster? 8) karazy!
-
Do it... who cares what anyone else thinks.
Wow, thanks for the support but I was joking. When I searched for help doing mine there were a shitload of them.

talk about barrels just saw a video on the noveske infidel and after they shot 130 rounds through it the handgard heated up and they tried to play it off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Riqadx8J08. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Riqadx8J08.) the handrail was soo close to the barrel you can feel the heat I think its a manufacture mistake. one would have to think you go in shtf would you use this gun or drop over 2 grand to buy a gun that heats up that fast.

That's not an infidel, it's not even a Noveske barrel, only the NSR is Noveske. Would a Noveske barrel make a difference? Probably not although I think they use a different steel. I'd be curious to see how it compares to other KeyMod rails, seems like they would all heat up the same amount.

Sorry mybad

I find it especially ironic that you posted this here given the host's recent troubles with establishing his credentials...http://ingunowners.com/forums/tactics-training/355233-cory-jackson-cory-erika-fame-possible-fraud.html (http://ingunowners.com/forums/tactics-training/355233-cory-jackson-cory-erika-fame-possible-fraud.html)

I have this rail on my 300 BLK that I just finished.
It's only got 100 rounds through it and I could probably stand to "break in" the barrel a little more {Rainier Arms}.
If anyone is willing to pony up 150 to 200 rounds of ammo we could test it at the next HDF class.

I have 3 of the newer minimalist, lightweight, Keymod rails, a Noveske NSR, BCM KMR and an SLR Rifleworks Solo Ultra Lite. If you shoot them as per the rules at the benches at KKHD then you will not have to much to worry about when it comes to heat. However do a couple of very fast back to back mag dumps and all 3 will be very hot. 3 to 4 mag dumps back to back and any of the 3 will be too hot to want to handle them. I will note that Cory had rail covers on the bottom and a switch on the top so that makes a world of difference. I have heated up rails with covers to the smoking point and I have to say that it is my opinion that they were disingenuous in the video about how hot the rail actually got. I often jest with some of the guys behind the keymod minimalist rails, that they have also greatly increased sales for the companies selling tac gloves. :)
