My 9 year old son and I have completed our hand gun safety training. I have also purchased a couple of S&W rifles to train with. Where should we look to locate clubs that are geared toward young adults and local competition?

Congrats... here's a list where you might want to start. Not really sure about competition on rifles (perhaps Schofield?). Most competition that I know of are IPSC type competitions with pistol.

What type of S&W Rifles?
Young shooters normally start of with air rifles and .22's. Most high schools have air rifle teams that compete locally.
Puuloa Rifle and Pistol Club sponsors high power rifle competition, but the minimum age is 16 to compete.

What are tbese sw rifles you mentioned? Ar type rifles? What caliber?

Age might be a problem here. Puuloa requires 14 years of age. I forgot what age for Schofield, probably the same. A lot of firearm schools have minimum age requirements too.

Could start out doing the small bore competitions at the steel targets at koko head, first weekend of the month. That's pretty fun way to get started and not intimidating. But they have to shoot rifles from the standing position at the small targets.
