Is that MMA Hawaii as in Mixed Martial Arts Hawaii? Sounds big. How many people are you expecting?

Is this a charity event or an effort to raise funds for some good cause, or just a business venture? If it's to raise money for a good cause, what percentage goes to that good cause?

Yes, MMA Hawaii as in Mixed Martial Arts Hawaii. Expected attendee... as many as possible.

In regards to 'Valet' your firearm. If you are a competitor or plan to register as a competitor please email the contact provided privately for addition information.

This event is for a good cause. The teams will draw one of two local high schools to represent. The winning team's high school will receive a scholarship from Remington College and a portion of the admission proceeds will be contributed. We have and would like to continue to support our youth shooters in Hawaii.

Wow looks interesting!

The title is very confusing though. At first, I thought it was RHSC's MMA Hawaii Challenge. As in, an MMA Challenge for Hawaii sponsored by RHSC. So when I started seeing shooting related text I got confused.

Now reading more in detail, I understand that it's a challenge to Hawaii, sponsored by RHSC and MMA Hawaii.

Carry on  :shaka:

Looks fun hope people go!

Is this legal?

I think it's a pilot program to allow private shooters to utilize their range in RH Shopping Center. Something about the shopping center's owners/management are very anti-gun and don't want people not in uniform lugging gun cases through their mall.

Not that I'm likely to use RHSC's range, but the more places one can shoot, the better!

Dunno about legality of the transfering of firearms.

The 'Valet' of the firearms is only for transporting the firearm from the vehicle to RHSC's facility while the firearm owner continues to park. It will be transported by an NRA Pistol Certified Instructor in the presence of an off-duty HPD. This will minimize the transporting of a firearm throughout the shopping center and/or its elevators.

"Reference §HRS 134-4

No person shall possess any firearm that is owned by another, regardless of whether the owner has consented to possession of the firearm, without a permit. "

Reference: §HRS 134-6

    (c) Except as provided in sections 134-5 and 134-9, all firearms and ammunition shall be confined to the possessor's place of business, residence, or sojourn; provided that it shall be lawful to carry unloaded firearms or ammunition or both in an enclosed container from the place of purchase to the purchaser's place of business, residence, or sojourn, or between these places upon change of place of business, residence, or sojourn, or between these places and the following: a place of repair; a target range; a licensed dealer's place of business; an organized, scheduled firearms show or exhibit; a place of formal hunter or firearm use training or instruction; or a police station. "Enclosed container" means a rigidly constructed receptacle, or a commercially manufactured gun case, or the equivalent thereof that completely encloses the firearm.

The parking garage is not a range. Off duty HPD escorting someone accepting custody of privately owned weapons in a parking garage... ??? Again, how is this legal?

Many Questions.....
Distances?
Type targets?
magazine loads?
One ore two handed?
Draw from the holster?
Is it a sanctioned match and by whom?

As long as RHSC is a FFL it would be legal; we can also "lend" firearms during instruction if we are there.  I will avoid commenting on the legality of it, but shooting a pistol anywhere is a felony offense lol.  Bishop estates is a work of magic, and valeting the firearms I know is the only way we would be able to use the range.

I'll let this one slide. $350 per team is a bit steep.

In regards to the entry fee being $350. This is per team of 4, so it is $87.50 per person if you break it down. Also please consider that this is also a fundraiser to benefit a local high school. A scholarship will be awarded, along with a portion of the proceeds to a local high school. RHSC has and will continue to support our local youth shooters as much as possible. We would hope others in the firearm community would feel the same.

Please note that half the team spaces have been filled. If you wish to compete, sign-up before all the spaces are filled.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but I'd like to know the value of the scholorship and what portion of the proceeds are going to the "kids."

It is one thing to donate all or most of the proceeds to a deserving school, it is another to devise a revenue generating event using the draw of a charitable event and then donate only a small amount. I'm not saying that's the case here but I had previously asked what percentage of the draw would actually go to the schools and it was never really answered......

@HICarry-  Not a problem. You are right many companies tend to blanket how they help. Here at Royal Hawaiian Shooting Club, we support our youth shooters as much as possible. We are a proud sponsor and support of the OIA Air Rifle League along with NRA and FNRA. Without organizations like NRA, FNRA and our company; the public schools would not be able to have a league. In regards to this event. The Remington College scholarship is up to $2000. The high schools will also be fundraising at booths at the event. In regards to the portion of the proceeds to be donated. We hope to donate at least 50% and it maybe all. This also depends on our sponsors and those assisting to cover the expenses for the event. As long as the expenses are covered, Royal Hawaiian Shooting Club will graciously donate to support our youth. Thank you for your concern in this regards.

@HICarry-  This fundraising is in specific for the funds of a new range at the schools who are seeking them. Unfortunately, the Board of Education does not seem to keen on supporting funds for these areas.

Tell ya what... if you guys want to get a team together, I will play.  One condition... I want to use my .357 single action revolver.  Some may consider that a handicap, especially on the rapid fire, but HiCarry and OldGuy can speak to my overall efficacy against bowling pins with my Blackhawks!

I noticed that you posted that the National Guard is a sponsor. The strange thing is that I am the coordinator for all marksmanship competitions for the Hawaii National Guard and I no requests for this competition came through my office.
Who is your supposed point of contact from the National Guard for this event?

Royal Hawaiian Shooting Club has decided it is the best interest of Hawaii's Youth Shooters and RHSC to donate directly to the schools and OIA, as we have in prior years. The tournament was a great idea, but unfortunately a majority of Hawaii's businesses and individuals were not as supportive of our Second Amendment publicly. You will find RHSC supporting our youth through other avenues. Thank you for understanding.
