I've always been fueling up Shell gas as I understand it supposedly is cleaner for your engine. Is this true?
Also, what is better for your car -- shell gas premium or aloha gas zero ethanol fuel?

What ever gas is cheapest. which is always the lowest octane rating.
Branded gasoline use proprietary additives which is why retail gasoline vary in price.
You ll most likely get rid of the car before any major problems happen with the engine.

New cars seem happy with e10 or e15, but older cars, and small engines should run e0.

new cars has fancy computers and injectors that can adjust fuel air ratios, they can even run on 100% pure ethanol.
older cars lack the new technology that automatically adjust the ratio,
The only thing new cars dont like is high octane gasoline. However, classic carburetor equipped cars love 100LL AV gas

I remember when 101 and 102 octane was available at the pump! This was back in the late 60's and early 70's before the Arab oil embargo. Many engines produced by manufacturers had compression ratios of 11+ to 1 and guys building motors would run as much 14 to 1. Emissions regulations killed all the fun.
Gasoline has more energy per pound of fuel than alcohol, but it burns very dirty and hot, hence the need for all the additives to try and keep the motor clean.
Alcohol, while having less energy per pound, burns much cooler and cleaner. In fact, high performance alcohol drag motors will sweat at the manifold like a cold glass of water on a hot day and be cold to the touch. The main drawback is the fact that more fuel is needed to achieve the same performance level as gasoline. The second is the expense of setting up the motor to run alcohol, plastics and rubber tend to dissolve or weaken and crack, and we all know how much manufacturers love cheap plastics, even in engine components.
Did you know that Henry Ford actually designed the Model T to run on ethanol? Back then it was cheap and abundant, the perfect fuel for the "Everyman"s car". Oil companies managed to persuade him otherwise.
Would I be a fan of Ethanol if it were available? With an octane rating of 110-114 for 100% ethanol, hell yes! If we could get the Corn Lobby, and the Fed to stay out of the mix, and once the industry got up and running, I believe it could be produced more cheaply than gasoline, hell, they're already doing it South America. No need for them to worry about what's happening in the ME. I would love to be able to build a high compression, high performance motor and be able to just fill up at the local station and not have to worry about detonation destroying it.

10% ethanol causes lower gas mileage in most cars, so the 10% volume of fossil fuel you take out is only replaced with about 3-5% ethanol (same volume but lower MPG).
Crop prices increase, making the price for corn used for fuel AND FOOD rise.
Higher prices, lower MPG, and engine damage from fuel running hotter than the engines are made to tolerate ...

From what I've read, S. America uses more sugar cane for biofuel than corn It produces more energy and takes less energy to process than corn. It's also less expensive to farm/harvest. Burning sugar cane doesn't take a staple food off the dining room tables and livestock feed bins, either.

Sugar cane for biofuel, like gasoline/ethanol? Or biomass? Engine fuel from sugar, we could bring back the plantation and actually have something in hawaii self sufficient no need import fuel. Makes too much sense, somebody would shut it down...:(

we let the construction and real estate industry get too big.
Why have plantations when we can build more "affordable housing"? If we faced the truth that we lived on a rock in the middle of the ocean and let market forces influence population growth, we wouldn't worry about sustainability right?
Yeah, let's build more affordable housing and create a more welfare state. :grrr:

That was what I meant when I stated "If we could get the Corn Lobby and the Fed to stay out of the mix". Corn is one of the least efficient ways to produce ethanol, sugar cane is far superior. They were also looking into Switchgrass { I think that's what they called it } that apparently had an even higher concentration of sugars than sugarcane, and grew with the veracity of weeds. I can't say what the state of that research is at this point, since the Federal government and probably the Oil Companies seem to have squelched the push for this fuel.

I believe that was the intent when Linda Lingle mandated the use of ethanol in fuels here. Hmmm, wonder why it didn't happen?

what's the RON on the E-0 I forgot to check but filled up the heap with it. expensive stuff 4.259 vs. 4-x for cornpoon. that was last week so now maybe cheaper.

One time I checked, only available in 87 octane, the lowest. Unfortunately, my WRX required 91 or better.
Have not checked recently, be nice if they expanded the ethanol free to higher octane grades. But for my generator 87 would be fine.
