Post by: dirtylickins on November 14, 2014, 11:43:47 PM
Aloha fellow shooter's it's that time again. This month the schedule for the day is as follows :
We will start the day promptly at 0800 so get there early it is a open shoot for all 0800- 1100. We will do some carbine techniques from 0800.0900 during the open shoot so if anyone is interested bring your rifle setup.
Then for all who did and passed the qualifications shooting session done over these past few months  starts at 12 - 4. Now we will be holding last chance qualifiers during the open shoot and will be allowed to participate in the pm session if you make it. (Must Qual on  pistol and rifle to participate ). Alright...So sign up if you plan on attending the 0800-0900 technique session.  Thanks  :shaka:

ok
to summarize
on sat, nov 29, the hdf range day is going to have a modified schedule
in the am, there will be an open shoot from 8am to 11am
instruction will be available to those who are interested during that period, but also, from 8 to 9, we will have a mini carbine class
we are asking for people to sign up for that so we can plan how much space we need
the plan is to try to include emphasis on some skills that we don't get to feature during regular carbine classes

in the afternoon, there will be an intermediate class for those who have passed both the pistol and riffle qualification tests
during the free shoot, we will have the VTAC boards up for last minute qualifications
if you qualify that morning, you will be eligible to stay for the afternoon session

we would also like to make a reminder to follow all safety rules
no uncased firearms in the parking area
casing and uncasing must be done at the tables pointing downrange or at the side berms
violators may receive a warning, or be asked to leave at the discretion of the hdf range day crew

mahalo for your support
we hope to see lots of you for the turkey day weekend shoot!

I've never been to one of these, so I'll check it out too.  I'm not sure what I have to bring.  I'm assuming the following is good:

Glock 22
5 magazines
holster, 2 mag pouches
Eye/ear pro, pants shoes

AR15 with Aimpoint
5 magazines
2 mag pouches

snacks, water

that's about right
there is a range day thread every month, and we go through needs every month or two

this is the main range day thread
https://2ahawaii.com/index.php?topic=3877.440
read backwards, this the current range day crew took over in the fall of 2013

for a fun shoot, you can bring anything that is legal in HI
limit is 10 rounds in mag

if you qualify in the am, make sure you have plenty of ammo for the pm
2-300 rounds each rifle and pistol

Hi,
Can you please add me to the 8 am to 9 am session? I am new to this so please let me know if there are specific things to bring or anything I need to do for follow up.  I have a couple of other friends who are possibly coming too if they sign up in time.

Bring at least 2 magazines. 3 - 4 is good and a sling. Hat, sunscreen, water is also a good idea. Shoes, long bats as well.

Ah true sign of happy members when everyone can help out everyone. See that's what it's about the open invitation to other fellow shooter's greeted in true HDF fashion. .. if you mess up ...example  like Joel did with his bat. We will sure make a effort to point it out . Lol but at least  we learn . Haha

What does the qualification consist of?

What does the qualification consist of?

looks kind of like that (vtac barrier with10 shooting ports) target is about 15 yards - metal plate for pistol and swinging bowling pin for carbine.

to qualify you need to hit the respective target one time through each port with a mag change performed during the course of fire. I believe qualifying times are:

37 seconds for pistol
43 seconds for rifle

bottom ports will kick your butt, make sure you do your mag change before attempting those. minimum rounds to complete course is 10, maximum is whatever it takes you to hit the target through each port
