I'm sure some of us will be
agitating asking the new legislature for the right to open carry. Here is a video, from MSNBC of all places, about a group in Detroit that practices open carry there in order to educate people about their rights in the state of Michigan.

What is the purpose of open carry?
Does it not paint a big bullseye on your back for a bad guy?

If you're the object of a determined bad guy, one who is spoiling for an actual conflict but wants to make sure it goes on for a while, then sure.
If, on the more likely hand, there's a bad guy looking for victims of opportunity, maybe he'll think twice before attacking someone who is obviously armed.
