To think I wanted to purchase one of these decades ago.  Kind of glad I was broke.

Seen this.. I think it will make your trigger horrendous, as any lawyer proof trigger would be. I'd just spend some money on a Timney or Jard have it installed by a gunsmith or diy and be done with it. Sad when any new firearm purchased nowdays needs a trigger job out of the box.. it's a given and expected...

What Timney trigger is best for hunting and precision on a Rem 700 Police?

I'd run something like this and set to 3 or 4 pounds.

I thought there was a recall previously.  I know my Rem 700 was on the list and when I contacted Remington, the "fix" was for me to ship the gun to them for corrective action.  I was planning on swapping out the stock trigger anyways, so I never sent the gun in.  Likely will be a Timney for around $100ish, but haven't been shooting the gun much lately, so just haven't gotten around to it.

Have also been toying with swapping out the stock for a McMillan A5, but funds haven't allowed that yet.

So are the aftermarket triggers safe as well?

I read somewhere  the problem was with some kind of adhesive Remington used in the X-Mark triggers.
Switched mine out for a Timney, problem solved.
