Title: Shot Show 2015 - Magpul
Post by: Bota-CS1 on January 22, 2015, 01:24:20 PM
Needless to say the booth was jam packed.  I skipped it the first day because you had to shove your way to get in there.  Three new headlining products from Magpul this year: MOE furniture for the AK lovers out there, 60 round drum, and Glock mags.  The glock mags are solid performers, followers work as expected with no feeding issues. They're using the same kind of polymer in the glock mags as in the gen 3 pmags - but at $10 less than factory mags from glock.

The 60 Round drum was just as popular as the glock mags.  The drum is for all purposes the same length as the Pmag.  KK was correct in pointing this out before.  What the rep was saying was that they were filling a niche in the market for competitive 3gunners who don't want to lose time with a reload.  They can load just the drum mag up and rip the course.  While this feature doesn't help us here in a capacity restricted state, I'll be looking to pick one up.  The rep also mentioned that the top of the drum is replaceable so if it ever breaks you don't have to get rid of the whole thing.  It is multi-platform capable and will load on a closed bolt.

The AK MOE lineup has finally come.  Made from the same polymer mixture as the AR MOE, it has a solid but not slippery feel to it.  If you're into stippling or applying skateboard tape to enhance the grip you can do that with the MOE as well.  The ports are MOE compatible so you don't have to go out and buy more parts for your AK.  Full color run - OD, black, foliage, fed, and plum. Stocks are also available and just as solid as the handguard.

It was hard to get pics of the AKs while I was in the booth, so here are the pics from the catalog that should be out soon if not already online.

With this magpul love for the AK and the opening of Kalashnikov USA, I may move over to the dark side, if I wasn't already so invested in the AR platform.  Does anyone know if Kalashnikov USA will be in the business of producing AK ammo?

By the way, thanks for the posts, Bota.  It's nice for those of us who can't go to the Shot show.

Magpul is also releasing the new ak pmags.  From pictures it seems that the feed lips are still polymer.  Locking tabs are some sort of steel though.  Dunno if the sides have steel reinforcement.
