Title: Convert Semi AR to Full Auto
Post by: suka on February 21, 2015, 10:10:33 PM
On vacation for Chinese New Year in Asia somewhere and a neighbor of a relative ask me to convert his semi AR to full auto. Well, I said of course since a full auto and semi auto firearm is in the same class of weapons in their country. M16 parts are readily available here, since several former US military bases were in the area. All parts were provided by the owner and I did NOT export any parts from the US.

This is only to show how simple it is to convert a semi auto to full auto, The laws of their country is different from the USA. Attempting this within the USA will require a Tax Stamp of $200 or a SOT with demo letter.

Lets get started!

Difference in parts of AR15 and M16
Dont forget the bolt carrier is also different, however a FA bolt carrier would be LEGAL in a Semi Auto within the USA.

In Hawaii a big no no,  and the receiver needs to be milled differently. No?  Yeah.  I wouldn't even toy with the idea in Hawaii. Not a good idea.

Been working on it this weekend, some minor milling and two simple holes.

Proof of concept and the fact its so easy to convert.

Hypothetically asking.... Why full auto?  Wouldn't 3 round burst be more useful?

My good friend got busted by the atf for doing that about 30 years ago. No more guns for him.
It ain't worth it.

i suspect that this conversion has very little to do with "use" and more to do with fun.

yeap, but I don't think these guys care about ammo prices. I believe ammo ( firearms over certain caliber ) is tightly regulated under their laws.

Mill out the area in red and drill a 3.1mm hole on both side using the forward pivot pin and rear trigger guard pin as the reference.

Measurements are in millimeters since the rest of the world uses it and only the US uses the inch system.

having the knowledge isnt a crime.

acting on it is.

there's instructions online for how to build a fully automatic submachine gun out of standard pipe fittings.  its only illegal if you apply it.

if you dont know about it

http://www.thehomegunsmith.com/ (http://www.thehomegunsmith.com/)

that gun would be super illegal if you made it.  but knowing how to make it and actually making it are two different things.

I have a 80's vintage SP-1 which apparently doesn't need milling to make it run Rambo since it came off the same assembly line as the M-16. The way I understand it is that I'm not supposed to own conversion parts for it, or that I can't have conversion parts nearby. Not exactly sure, but I was thinking about selling it anyway. It's in really nice condition and barely fired with the Colt scope. Too bad about missing the last gun grab panic. Probably could have gotten 5k for it considering how some people were throwing money around back then.

the funny thing is that we will all starve here in a SHTF situation.  who cares about guns and ammo, you can't eat guns and ammo!

feeding nearly a million people on an island is gonna get real interesting pretty quickly.

Truth.
The ability to get off of this rock and having a place to go needs to be a priority. Without daily and weekly shipments of food, oil and virtually everything else, the situation here will quickly degenerate. That's the plan I'm working on anyway, Texas sounds nice.......

If you could find a way to make the 1919 below legal in HI I'd buy one.  It's about the only full auto firearm I could conceiveably afford to shoot

That's why you "need" guns and ammo - to feed "lead" to the desparate ones who try to take your food

I just checked and according to the diagram you posted the SP-1 would have to be milled just like the rest of them. So much for insta-Rambo.

About the cannibalism stuff: just remember we are always creating the world that we have to live in. If you don't like where it's all going then by all means do something different.

I agree silver 100% and I sold my farm... lol  also once shipping collapses and the refineries cease production and the storage tanks run dry cars will be useless and most will be walking. I know there are not enough electric cars or horses to go around and most would get jacked by people who wanted them more. I could see people sailing to get places.

Lakeside used to make those  ( semi auto or post sample full auto ) a few years back. But they were still not cheap. Lakeside are still in business but not as a FFL07 anymore, they choose not to renew their manufacture license.

Calling up Brownells for an auto sear and hammer with J hook might trigger some alarms, so sourcing the needed small parts could be an issue.

cool i didnt know there was a part in asia that you can own firearms? is it civilian or military leo only? just curious what part were you in for vacation? unless you cant disclose it, i only know of america and switzerland so far that civilians can own firearms as well as other parts in developing nations, ohh and have you seen this before? heres the video, http://youtu.be/Nhv4hMGdQ_g (http://youtu.be/Nhv4hMGdQ_g) its a full auto conversion kit, i guess its in the gray area somewhere along the lines where its legal but if you bend the piece of metal without proper paperwork then you know... but im curious to how it works or what it is? it sounds similar to a lightning link, or rdias however those require you have a full auto fcg

in the Philippines, civilian ownership is legal with permits and registration.  However, most firearms and ammunition here are black market.

ohh i see cool always thought it was still banned from their previous gun control, i know theres alot up in danao, philipines from what i seen from documentaries, some of the gunsmiths building 1911s are really skilled craftsman, their gunsmith skill could go to good use for building 1911s, i believe some of them do get lucky and get hired by armscor and what not. btw have you heard of the arfa full auto conversion kit before?
Title: Re: Convert Semi AR to Full Auto
Post by: suka on February 26, 2015, 11:16:52 PM
yes, ive heard of them. but a DIAS would work a lot better.
Title: Re: Convert Semi AR to Full Auto
Post by: Veurs1911 on February 27, 2015, 12:06:46 AM
ohh are they pretty much the same then? cause the arfa conversion looks like you dont need a full auto fcg compared to DIAS, i know lightning links you only need the link itself i believe and dont need a j hook trigger or a long disconnector etc..

Kind of off topic but didn't want to start another thread for it.  Is having such trigger assembly illegal here?  Is it the same as "could be constructed" if other AR rifles on the same property?  So would it be legal for somenone to posses who does not have any AR rifles?  Just curious to see how these politicians/lawyers have the so called laws written.

Don't buy these parts unless you legally own a tax stamp. Doing so is asking for trouble.

Thanks, I vaguely remember a news story years ago about a couple of OCCC guards busted for ordering some F/A parts.  I didn't pay much attention to the story as I was not really into firearms back then.

lightning links and DIAS are considered a MG in itself. m16 "parts" are not regulated and can be obtain legally other than converting a semi to FA.

Such the case , M16 and all other parts kits including AK kits comes with the entire full auto FCG,

In fact some manufacture include the FA bolt carrier in their AR15. A few years back when LPK were not available, M16 FCG were ordered and converted to semi use,

opps forgot to update on the range report.

The gun had 7 failure to fire from three 30rd mags. only one complete mag ran flawlessly.
I would suspect that it was due to ammo. Their ammo was a hogwash of different type ranging from mil surplus to back bush reloads. the mag that ran good had mostly commercial ammo and surplus. I was told that 5.56 were not easily obtainable in their area and is mostly black market.
