Anyone ever try out these on their AR? Building my 2nd AR and was looking for a little more magnification. Coming from and Aimpoint Pro on my first rifle. Thought about ACOG, but a little out of my price range. Thoughts on the VX-R Patrol???? ???

http://www.leupold.com/tactical/scopes/vx-r-patrol/ just throwing you a bone with the link so others don't have to search. I have no experience with this scope or hardly any scopes for that matter

Appreciate the link!

Haven't shot with one but have checked one out.My next purchase will be between this or the vortex viper pst

Works well, I've had no problems.

Would this work for you, https://2ahawaii.com/index.php?topic=17545.0 ?

Thanks dustoff....lemme look into it

Is that the one with the firedot reticle? As looking at that model. It's on closeout. Cheap

where? :shaka:

If you do a good amount of up close shooting where you don't use magnification, I strongly suggest a true 1.0 optic.

I already have an Aimpoint Pro on my other rifle...building a second one and looking for something with a bit more magnification. Also looked in the Vortex...

If the rifle is not going to be run on a low magnification I would look into a more usable range in the 6-8 power top end with a 2 or 3 lower end. This gives you a better working range. The variable low end on a 1.25 is pretty useless on a weapon with a magnification requirement and not used up close.

I have one on my ar. I shoot tues/wed let me know if you want to try it.

Where do you shoot on Tuesdays?

I honestly think Leupold made a mistake with the 1.25 low end magnification.
It makes it just weird enough to not want to use with 2 eyes open.
I like 1-4 & 1-6 optics, but the little VX-R patrol is probably one of the last scopes I'd put on a rifle.
The small tube doesn't gather light well and the image looks dark. The 1.25 magnification is weird to me (mentioned earlier)

I have the vx6 1-6x25 vX-6 firedot on mine which I believe is somewhat similar. Had eotechs prior. I really like it, not true 1x but for me the eye relief etc and the option of the magnification is worth the tradeoff. The 1x setting is comfortable for me even at really close range like around the house. Love the motion detector that turns the firedot on and off too!
