A good friend of mine was carrying two heavy gun cases out to the parking lot and couldn't find his car. So he set them down by the pedestrian walkway and the stairs leading up to the next level. When he returned the cases were gone. A police report was filed. Here is a list of guns:
1. TTN, 12 Gauge dbl bbl shotgun. Hammer type. Antiqued, 20" bbl.
2. Uberti Model1866 lever action carbine, 19" bbl..45 Colt. Antiqued with the brass not shined. Looks bad.
3. 1863 Remington "Zouave", .58 cal muzzle loader, 33" bbl.
4. Remington Jenks Navy Carbine, with Maynard primer, .54 cal. 24 1/4" bbl.
5. Warner solid frame revolving rifle, made in the1850's, ser # 249, .40 cal, 26" bbl. Have to push the forward trigger to revolve the cylinder.
They were in hard, black long rifle cases. 1 has Navy sticker with the name Charles Maurer stenciled on it, and the other has a SASS logo sticker and "Stone Deaf" label.
If you saw anything or anybody or have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me or the police. Mahalo.

Sorry to hear that...... BUT who in their right mind leaves firearms unattended?!
Nonetheless, we'll be on the lookout.

No one feels worse about it than he does. Thanks for keeping on the lookout.

those are some uncommon firearms.
I'll be on lookout for them
On another topic, did anyone notice that there are some characters at the gunshow today?
-
I wonder if NBC has video surveillance in and around the parking structure?
-
That really does suck. Hopefully our registration and other gun laws quickly catch the thieves as they attempt to register in their names!
I purchased several of these. I only wanted one, but I got three in case I got a lemon, as very cheap electronics are apt to do when buying online!
I've been very happy. The alarm is loud as hell, so you can lock it in a gun case and hear it fine if it goes off. You put a 9V battery in the alarm unit, turn the switch on the alarm unit to "on", then use the key bob to arm/disarm it just like a car alarm. It even chirps to let you know if it's active or not.
I put one in my carry on when I travel now. When I claim my luggage with my gun if traveling with it, I also turn that one one as I'm going to my rental car. This way I can set my luggage near me and not worry about someone walking off with it while I'm possibly distracted. Vibration sets it off.

NBC does have cameras but unfortunately security left for the day and the surveillance is locked up in the security room. But I'm sure it picked up something
-
oh man. I hope somebody walked them back to the show lost and found or something not just outright STOLE FIREARMS. That's Club FED when they get caught.
-
I have seen video cams in the parking structure, hopefully there were some catching the stairways.man I hope who ever took the firearms get caught and get the maximum sentence.
-
I'm a little surprised this happened. Usually I'd think people that attend gun shows are more law abiding overall than anywhere else. Or at least no one would try something like that since lots of eyes are watching everywhere.

the only characters i noticed this weekend were concentrated in that one corner near the restroom...

Thanks for posting Inspector. I hope the guns are found.

That's horrible that those guns were stolen. My sympathies to the former owner. I know that feeling when you discover such a loss... :( >:( :wtf:
I wouldn't be surprised that anywhere there is a crowd of people buying and/or selling valuable items that there will likely be some criminal element surveilling the people and the parking lot. I wish it weren't that way, but...

Haha! Those guys did look like the usual suspects. :D

How sensitive are they to vibration? If, for example, you were to leave your gun case locked in your car, would wind/passing cars/pedestrian bumps set it off?

It varies, depending on how close to the outside world it is. If inside a padded gun case, it's not going to go off NORMALLY unless someone kicks or tries to lift the case.
Having said that, I had one activated in a soft, not-overly-padded, AR case at the range. Someone was shooting something big with a really annoying -- I mean -- really exciting to listen to muzzle brake 2 benches down.
Upon the first shot from that rifle .....
RARR! RARR! RARR! RARR!
I would say, sensitive enough to detect the movement you want to detect, but not so sensitive it goes off in a gentle breeze!

yeah there was one scary guy had the red plaid shirt on
-
I have been informed and asked to post...
the owner of the rifles has offered a $500 reward for the recovery of the THREE ANTIQUE RIFLES that were lost/stolen.
If any one has any information please PM me for the details on how to contact the owner. Thank you!
-
I think I passed by the owner when he set them down by the walkway. I was parked on S. King and was walking away from the NBC. I remember seeing the J Hara guys putting away their stuff and then the owner of the old firearms. Not sure if it was that side of the street (closest to NBC) was the one - if so, it is a one way makai.
-
Not sure if this is posted elsewhere, apologies if it is.
One of our older shooters had five of his guns stolen from the parking lot. This is really sad, Charlie is one of the nicest guys. No pictures were provided.
Two long gun hard cases filled with five guns were stolen at about 5pm Sunday March 22, 2015 just after the gun show. The owner was in the process of loading his vehicle. The theft occured in the NBC parking lot first floor inside lane near the pedestrian walkway and stairway to the upper deck.
The stolen guns are:
1. TTN, 12 Gauge dbl bbl shotgun. Hammer type. Antiqued, 20" bbl.
2. Uberti Model1866 lever action carbine, 19" bbl..45 Colt. Antiqued with the brass not shined. Looks bad.

You and Suka?

I was just informed that the event was captured on camera and that the license plate of the vehicle was visible on the recording. Hopefully he vehicle is registered and they capture the perps and get the guns returned.

Good, best of luck to the victim.

That's good news, hopefully they have all the firearms and didn't sell any.

Hopefully these stolen arms were stolen for profiteering only and not for some other reason or we all be in deep dodo.....
Might ends up on craigslist, gunbroker,etc...
-
I was just informed that the scum that stole the guns were found and the guns were returned to their rightful owner. That is all the information I have at this time.
-
That is good news, bad news for the guy, does anybody know how much years.per stolen firearm.?
-
Great to hear a happy ending to this story.

Those guns are so old, they're not even considered firearms anymore.
He will not do any time.
He will be charged with disturbing ancient artifacts, a misdemeanor.

Act 289, Session Laws 1992, amended ยงยง708-830.5 and 831 by upgrading the offense of theft of a firearm, dynamite, or other explosive from a class C to a class B felony. The legislature felt that the serious and hazardous nature of firearm thefts and thefts of dynamite and other explosives justified the upgrade in the penalty and classification. I think other charges depend on whether the perp/s can possess a firearm legally at all. If not, there are other felonies they can be looking at.
Doesn't look good for them at all  :geekdanc:
-
Good News: NBC had a good video; got the licenses number and have already recovered the guns and returned them to the owner.
Fastest recovery I have ever heard of.
:closed:
-
Stolen guns recovered, stolen truck recovered . . . nice when things turn out well for the good guys :)
-
Great ending on this story.Hopefully ,those bad guy get off the street for many years to come.
-
2 of those guns are new enough to be considered firearms.
-
So the owner chose to not press charges in exchange for getting the firearms back immediately. If he had pressed charges it may be a year or more before he gets the firearms back. So there is the rest of the story.

Hey, the criminals have rights!
The victim, not so much.
Having to choose between punishing the criminals or being victimized a second time by the "justice" system ... something just doesn't seem right! :wtf:

Photos and videos are used ALL THE TIME as evidence in court and works just fine. The evidence can be examined, authenticated, whatever to make the case.
Why, in this modern age, do we have to keep someone's property to convict? Take video from all sides, close-ups, stills, glamor shots ... whatever is needed. But there is no reason to keep the property.
Property can even be tagged, marked or otherwise identified by serial numbers, etc. If it's needed in court, that's all that's nevessary to know this was the exact property involved.
Sometimes I think our system is designed to be cumbersome and burdensome for the state and victims on purpose!
-
Little confused here.Does it mean the accused ( till proven guilty ) will go free to this bad stuff again if the owner decided not to press charges against them. Can the State or Federal press charges against them?. Sad but I strongly believe bad actions deserves punishment.Hope this is not the end of this story. :(

They are not going to be punished for what they did. It was the choice of the owner not to punish them. He made the conscience decision not to punish them because they told him they would have to hold on to the weapons until the trial was over. And he felt it was better than having to shell out a $500 reward in exchange for not prosecuting.

And here I was thinking that I would have been "too cynical" to post that I bet the guy(s) get a short probation even if they had priors. Nothing. Nothing at all. How is that even possible? How is "the system" conditioning those people to behave in the future? It's bad enough that there is often "almost" no consequences... but no consequences at all? Ridiculous. :wtf: How can anyone wonder why the public has no faith in any branch of government and thus largely refrain from voting or any other involvement?

I don't want to sound cynical myself, but if you ever get a chance to look up what the average prison term is for adults who murder children it will make you puke. Murdering a child gets you much less of a punishment than murdering another adult. It is truly sick. I wish I could find the link to the statistics I saw.
-
So, these people/person stole firearms, which is a class B felony in and of itself. Add to that being in possession of firearms they may not be able to possess legally (pass a background check?), and I'm sure there is enough here for the State Prosecutor to go after WITHOUT the theft charges.
This needs to be all over the news. If this state is pushing for continued and/or additional gun control laws, then maybe they need to start enforcing the laws AGAINST THE REAL CRIMINALS and stop harassing the law abiding owners!!!
-
Pretty sad. The perps should never be able to own or purchase ever. They should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. So only thing left after the slap on the wrist is stolen vehicle? I think we've all been done a disservice.
-
I don't know the owner personally, but I do know that he is elderly.
I suspect he may not wish to go to court because of the physical and mental strain.
Is it possible for the state or fed to prosecute without the owner?

If the crime is against the people of the state, in addition to being against the gun owner, then yes! The state AG has the ability, and the sworn duty, to execute the law against the thieves.
The federal and state gun laws are meant to protect the people, not an individual. There is no reason I can see why the AG should, or would, refuse to prosecute. With the fact they admitted guilt and returned the guns, the AG will be able to get a conviction in his sleep!
