I'm in the early stages of planing a new home build. Aside from the basics,(kitchen bath bedroom living etc)
i am planing on having a gun/safe room, security system, inline underground water storage tank, PV and hot water solar.
Any other ideas? Wondering what other people would do in my position.

Indoor gun range. 20 car garage for high end exotics............the usual stuff.

It sounds like you got the basics down. Make sure the safe room is done in poured concrete reinforced with rebar. There are plans on the FEMA sight somewhere if you need help designing it.

Gzire, got the 4 car garage with the 2 post lift on the wish list. 2A, thanks for the heads up on FEMA. I'm trying to plan ahead for SHTF situations, thats where the inline water tank idea came from.

When you do the electrical, wire all the rooms for internet. No wifi reception issues. No wifi hacking.
Add the ultimate addition... urinal. I have one and love it.

If building in Hawaii and haven't poured your foundation yet...I'd highly recommend a basaltic gravel base (below the foundation) to block ground termites. Having all the fancy man cave awesomeness will mean little if those little buggers start tunneling up into walls. Doubling up on hurricane straps/ties wouldn't hurt either.

If you are making the gun room large enough to fit a person I'd suggest hard wiring a land line in. God forbid you ever get forced into that space a cell phone won't allow you to call out and may not work in the case of a power outage. I'd also thought about it, but I'd build in a weak spot that can be unplugged to allow air into/out of the room as well. I would stay away from electronic locks and stick with mechanical.

Door opens inward not outward. Just in case something blocks the door from the outside. I have my ham radio license so I would wire a 2m/HF line as well.

Thanks for the tips. Thats the kind of info i'm looking for. Hard line/ weak spot, direction of door opening. Awesome advice.

You'd need a powered air vent to evacuate the noxious gases at that point.
