See? This is what happens when you allow people to carry guns in public! Blood in the bars! Only police should be allowed to carry guns! Oh, wait...
When the head of the police union shows up at 3 AM you know he's gonna do his best for his boy and substantiate that the gun "accidentally went off". It's such a curious improbability that in most of these cop shootings that they seem to have acquired the rarest of the rare: manufacturer-defective firearms that "accidentally go off". Let me guess, it was in an enclosed container in his car and when she opened the car door it "went off"?
-
Sounds like a booty call that went wrong.
I would guess the officer is married. I smell an domestic argument today after the wife sees this article.

You guys are so cynical! I'm betting he just stopped by the bar on his direct route home after getting off duty in order to check on the March Madness line ups.
-
If the facts are as reported, this is at least the third "accidental" (read negligent) discharge of a firearm by an HPD officer in the last year.
This one.
The Target store bathroom incident.
The poor guy who shot himself at a barbecue at his home while showing a firearm to a friend.

On his way to Sunrise Easter Mass, he stopped to pick up a case of communal wine ...

He probably got pissed cuz she put baby oil on the wrong gun!

Let's see:
First rule of gun safety: Always point in a safe direction.......check
Second rule of gun safety: Always keep finger off the trigger until ready to shoot........check
Oh wait what are those rules again..... :wtf:

He probably followed the Deedy rules of gun handling.
Go out to a bar with your loaded gun
Get pickled
Get into a argument / discussion / show & tell , bust out your gun and shoot someone ???
Forgot....
Get your buddies to come down and make sure you don't submit to a sobriety test, help craft an excuse, make sure you don't get prosecuted

Deedy's firearm use was justifiable after the thug attacked him.
In this case, we have yet to find out what lead up to the discharge.
Why don't we wait for all the facts to come out before we start trying to rake Deedy over the coals again?

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A 40-year old woman is in serious condition after being shot in the abdomen, allegedly by an off-duty Honolulu Police Officer.
Sergeant Anson Kimura is a 25-year veteran of the force, a well-known, well-liked officer assigned to the Chinatown district. He is on desk duty after his 38-caliber revolver went off inside Kings Sports Bar, just before 2 a.m. Friday.
The victim works at the bar. She was taken to the Queens Medical Center.
"It appears the handgun was accidentally discharged," says Honolulu Police Deputy Chief Dave Kajihiro, "This case is currently classified as an assault in the second degree, and the officer's police powers have been restricted."
Police sources tell me, the revolver is his department approved, off-duty weapon and that he is known to take the gun out when out with friends.
"I'm appalled at that situation," says State Senator Will Espero, "It's outrageous that somehow a loaded firearm would be out of a holster in a bar, while an individual is off-duty. I cannot imagine, what circumstances that could happen unless someone was just showing off."
Espero supports a bill that is currently moving through the legislature that would make it a crime, a misdemeanor, to recklessly handle a loaded gun while intoxicated. Lawmakers are still working out the details of H-B 888.

Is it the Same officer that accidentally discharged his weapon in target/Walmart-while using the bathroom.

to be fair, it was the literal name of the bar.
perfect name for a sports bar-shooting is a sport,- shooting in the sports bar is a different story.

I don't see anyone being charged....

I'll tell you what the fuck for...

However, I have noticed that in areas like New York, where firearms are severely restricted to the gneeral population, people have a strong tendency to want to see a "real gun."
Maybe the solution is to allow the general population, barring restricted persons, of course, to carry concealed weapons.
That is, to "normalize" the carry of PDFs (Personal Defense Firearms).
Ya think? Seems to work in the majority of other States. That way, you don't get the "Ooo-oooo, can I see it?" phenomenon.

At least this helps put to bed the myth that police are safer carrying guns than the general public!
:shake:
-
Friend: Hey. What kine trigger weight that little .38 have?
Cop: I think maybe 10, 12 pounds double action.
Friend: That seems kinda heavy. You sure?
Cop: Lemme check.
** BANG!! **
Cop: You're right. More like 7 or 8!

States that allow CCW do not allow printing under the clothing or brandishing. If you draw your weapon, it had better be to use it. Wanna show off a gun, take it out of public spaces.
If Hawaii only had some kind of CCW training classes, maybe things like this would not be so common .... <sarc />
-
@mauidog:
Well some states aren't so restrictive in terms of printing and what constitutes "brandishing" as all that, and some are liberalizing this kind of thing. I mean if your coat blows open or something, that's not printing, and as you know, the mere presence of a firearm, without a shot being fired, has prevented crime, and will not constitute brandishing.
@all, just for the heck of it:
LMBT, the four rules, Brooklyn style:
L Every fuckin' gun is always fuckin' Loaded and safeties aren't worth a shit.
M Keep the fuckin' Muzzle pointed in a safe direction (Or at least to where you can fix the godamned hole.)
B Keep your booger hook off the freakin' Bang switch until you're ready to put that godamned hole in the fuckin' target.
T Be sure of that fuckin' Target and what's past it. >:D

So how do you really feel, Terry?

Police sources say the officer who shot a bar employee in the abdomen early Friday morning has been known to take out his 38-caliber revolver and wave it around in social settings.

Apparently, that's what they meant to say when they reported:

-
^^ "So how do you really feel, Terry?"
Like I'm glad I got out of Brooklyn over 50 years ago and moved to Colorado.
But back on the cop case, I have no doubt that he liked to show off his off-duty gun whenever the opportunity arose --and I suspect, without being able to prove it, that the officer "generated" those opportunities whenever possible.
As I pointed out, places with strong restrictions on firearms tend to generate high curiosity about them.
Thus, the "Oooo-oooo, can I see it?" phenomenon. I also strongly suspect, but cannot confirm, that if carrying a PDF* were "normalized" in Hawaii, stuff like this wouldn't happen, since packing a rod would not make you an "elite" and make you want to show off how "elite" you are.
Hawaiian police officers, are you reading this?

*PDF = Personal Defense Firearm, with an emphasis on defense.

This is bullshit.
If this were any one of us, even in our own home, we would be booked and awaiting arraignment in a cell right now. It's a fucking double standard and I am tired of it. This irresponsible asswipe shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a gun, and he should be in jail for doing something so incredibly stupid. All the recent ND's are bad enough, but they can at least be classified as a mistake, this is just pure idiocy. "He was known to take it out and wave it around at social gatherings" WTF?? Who's dick is this guy sucking? Why weren't his fellow officers and commanders relieving him of his firearms and stomping his guts out?
They certainly wouldn't have a problem doing it to any of us.
-
.
-
Not sure how this would help us present CCW in a case like this. They (anti CCW) will use this as an example of why we shouldn't have. Anti: "Even a police officer can't handle a gun why should we let you?!"
I'm just as perturbed as well. If it was anyone else not LE - be it at home or other place of sojourn, we'd be in a jail cell while the investigation is underway. :grrr:

I couldn't have said it better. You are absolutely right.
Just saw on the news that during the press conference a reporter asked if a sobriety test was done. The police spokesperson said they are investigating and it happened in a bar. Didn't answer the question.
My guess is that his buddies came down and told him not to say anything and no test, just like Deedy and that other officer who ran a red light and killed a young waitress one night a few years ago on the Pali.
If it were any of us, we would have been tested or it would have been reported that we appeared intoxicated and we'd be in a cell keeping Bubba company.

Oh wow! I've been wondering what happened to Bubba. He came to a couple of gtg. I haven't been to any gtg in quite some time now. I haven't seen any posts from him in quite a while. Did not know he is locked up.
Bummer.

Like.
Edster48, I'd love to sit down and have a beer or two with you, sometime.
I'll buy first 2 rounds.
Come out to the GTG on the 11th. Great atmosphere, fine dining and fellow firearms enthusiasts!
We always have a good time and I'd like to see you there. It's a perfect forum for discussions like this.

I recorded something on my DVR yesterday and at the tail end it caught the beginning of the news. They were at Honolulu Firearms and they were showing a S&W revolver that was supposedly the same as the gun the HPD Officer was carrying. It cut out before the whole segment was over but the HF guy was demonstrating that it takes 12 pounds of pull to fire the gun in double action. So chances are it was not an accidental discharge.
-
It's okay because mayor Kenoi picked up this officers bar tab.
-
Can you say "premature" discharge????? ;D
-
Today's article in the Star Advertiser quotes the police department saying "the gun accidentally discharged". They should have said "the officer accidentally discharged his gun" because had he kept his finger off the trigger....
Police said the gun "accidentally discharged" and were trying to determine whether the fired weapon — a handgun — belonged to the officer.
Trying to protect HPD from looking stupid and giving anti's the narrative that guns can accidentally go off. :wtf:

I watched the same report inspector dvr'd and it was quite definitive. Minimum of 10 pounds to pull the trigger double action, or the hammer needs to be purposefully cocked for the weapon to fire.
Accidental discharge my lily white ass.
This was idiocy and unsafe, irresponsible firearms handling by an HPD officer.
He needs to be immediately terminated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
-
I don't think what's being reported in the media is true... :-X

Depends on the state. VA has no laws against printing or the like, in fact open carry is legal for anyone that can own a gun so that's fairly common. Brandishing is of course different, but in VA its defined as displaying the weapon in a "threatening manner." Obviously "threatening" is subjective so that's all about who can argue their side best, but at least it's open for debate.
I do know that FL is pretty strict about printing though. Also, this place has more "accidental" shootings by police than I would almost think possible.

I traded my semi-auto intended carry gun for a revolver because I wanted to make sure i wouldn't have a negligent discharge. (Premature discharge ?)
It's not easy to accidentally make a double-action revolver go off.
