Title: Does anyone have a gauge block?
Post by: Mr. Farknocker on May 12, 2015, 11:19:54 AM
Does anyone have a gauge block I can use to test my new digital caliper that I purchased for reloading?  My cheap Harbor Freight Analog 6" dial caliper gave up the ghost so I replaced it with another relatively inexpensive digital one that has good ratings. I tested the new caliper against other measuring devices in my tool box and am getting a different reading that's well beyond the reported tolerance of the new caliper. I'd like to test the new caliper against a gauge block to determine if the caliper is defective and if so, return it within the 14 day return period but do not have one. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have one, try using a feeler gauge.  It should keep you in the ballpark at least for smaller measurements.

Aloha

...Does anyone have a gauge block or feeler gauge?

Just kidding.

Mynah, thanks for the excellent suggestion. I'll dig around my toolbox to see if I can find one.

If you don't have one I probably have an extra one I can give you. I don't foresee my ever using it again.

Thanks for the offer/advice, guys. I found my feeler gauges and was able to test the calipers. It turned out to be accurate after all.
