Title: Any place on island to shoot before purchase?
Post by: IslandAthlete on May 23, 2015, 11:53:58 AM
I couldn't find an answer anywhere else so...I am looking to pick up either an M&P shield  or G43. It's also going to be my wife's first time shooting and hopefully end up as "her" gun. Is there anyplace where we can shoot before we buy? I want her to get a feel for each of them. Thanks guys for the help.

Check Honolulu Firearms & Range.  Not sure if they have the models you want to sample, but they do rent guns to shoot in their range.

X-Ring will as soon as the range is open. In about a month.

Another suggestion is ask other forum members if you can try theirs.
If I had those models I would let you try those.

Maybe post a request here.

https://2ahawaii.com/index.php?topic=19193.msg174264#msg174264

Many members here are willing to let others shoot their guns.  The hard part is what they own and when they can make it to the range.

M&P Shield comes in 9mm and 40S&W.  They also have variations with and without manual safeties.  Thought I'd mention in case you want to refine your request.

I have the Shield in 9MM with the safety.

No G43 .....

.... yet!   :shaka:

HRA Fun Shoot is tomorrow (normally the last Sunday of each month) at KHSC, join HRA for $20.00 a year to participate. Last month Daniel brought out a Glock 43 for members to try out. The members are always willing to let others try out their guns. Let me know if you will be there and I will bring out my 9mm Shield.

This is the perfect place for her to begin, many instructors around. If you do decide to participate, bring ammo  ;)

Each year for Father's Day at KHSC is a shooting fair.  Bring a couple of bucks for eye and ear protection if you don't bring your own, and a little more for tickets.  Then you can try out whatever guns are available -- ammo included!

Thanks for the help. I wish I would've known about the HRA fun shoot sooner! That sounds like a good place to be, but I am hosting a Memorial Workout at Kapiolani Park tomorrow. I am interested in finding out more about joining the HRA though.

BTW shield 9mm no safety, but this is why I want my wife to be involved.....she might prefer the safety?

How much does it usually cost to participate? Kids?

Smaller kids can shoot .22lr
Bigger kids can shoot anything at discretion of ros

You buy scrip and turn it in for ammo
It varies by caliber
