Title: Hunter Ed class --> handgun permit question
Post by: Silenus on August 03, 2015, 08:01:36 PM
I took and completed my hunter ed class the weekend of July 18th. Anyone know how long it takes to get the certificate or whatever it is that you need for applying for handgun permit?

It takes about 2-3 weeks for you to receive your card.

Ok great! Now...as long as our place in Wahiawa doesn't burn down in the meantime, maybe I'll get it this week.  >:(

I think you just need to take a handgun class to get certified,i don't know if having your hunting license helps..but I could be wrong.I just took a handgun class and got certified.

You need either the handgun safety class, the hunter ed class, or an acceptable substitute such as military or LE training.  You only need one.

To clarify, the Hunters Ed course satisfies to you per requirements, but it truly sucks as far as actual hands on safety.  IMHO for a new shooter it's nice to have but they should go somewhere else to get some real safety training.

rifle safety course leaves something to be desired.

but glad we don't have to take one.   :shaka:
