My son's honda accord 05 is needing to have the starter replaced.
I heard it is common.

Got a refurbished starter from Oreillys 2 years ago, it stopped working, took it in, hoping to get some credit, they just gave me another starter. Great Deal :shaka:

I wrench for a living, I have had bad luck with reman'd parts from O'reillys.  I say one tool everyone should invest in is a digital multimeter.  Having the actual voltage numbers helps in trying to diagnose problems like these.

upate: car crank now and start but i can hear a loud rattling noise and no reverse when switch from park to reverse. but when i switch from park to drive and switch from drive to reverse it reverse. loud noise seems like coming from the starter.

Possible that starter is failing to disengage. Some times, especially with reman parts, you'll need to shim the starter to get a proper fit. Reverse issue? Check the fluid level, with the tranny hot, engine running and add if needed. Another possibility is shift linkage adjustment. Definitely trace the rattling noise to it's real source, if it's coming from the tranny you have a real issue. Hopefully it's just a heat shield or something.

Hope this helps!

thanks edster, i will try and remove the new installed reman starter and also re-trace the noise. last time i traced the noise. it was coming the starter. the mechanic that came and check heard the same thing. he even speculated that maybe there is a metal or bolt dropped inside that causes the noise. hope its not the transmission.

My experience with Hondas, no shim is needed for starters as none was ever made that I have seen.  Like I mentioned in another thread, I often find it difficult to accurately diagnose car problems behind a keyboard, I need hands on.  But from what was posted, I say maybe post up a vid of some sort.

Yeah, can't say I'm a "Honda" guy. Just throwing out possibilities based on my experience. Hard to say what's going on without actually seeing the problem.
