as a firearm enthusiast, what do you think every other firearm enthusiast needs to complete their collection?
can be very general, or very specific.
i think every gun guy/gal needs a revolver.
its super ultra reliable, never a ftf or fte
its very accurate
its very simple to operate, clean and maintain
its a piece of history
and Dirty Harry carried a revolver.

I have zero revolvers. I have been wanting one for the cool factor and every other reason listed in the post above. Been looking at the gp 100. Just haven't bought one yet because I'm not sure if I'd rather have a 44 mag. or a 357 mag.

My first thought was a ruger 10/22
On second thought , I figured AR pattern rifle
But I agree that a revolver is a great choice too

A .22.

A .22.
at least 1. ;)
-
.22
Glock
Revolver
AR
Shotgun
1911
High power bolt gun
Whichever gun you're missing is the one you need.
Then just one more :D
-
I agree on the revolver. But not because of simplicity or reliability. They are not super reliable. I have broken a few.
They are however, essential for marksmanship training.
A decent 22 rifle is also essential.

I've posted this before. From a training perspective, every home should have each one of the following as a minimum:
1. Shotgun - semi-auto or pump action
2. Rifle #1 - bolt action
3. Rifle #2 - semi-auto
4. Revolver - single/double action
5. Pistol - Semi-auto
If you practice with this assortment, you'll be prepared to operate the majority of commonly owned firearms you may need to use.
Specifically, everyone needs one Glock 9mm.
Why?
Because every gun owner needs to own the baseline by which all other pistols are measured!
-
Revolver and lever rifle chambered in the same caliber and a .22LR.
As a kid, always dreamed about owning a Rem. Nylon 66, but never got around to it.
-
dont have a revolver either. got all the others u listed. just waiting on a good deal. probably 357 so my gf can shoot 38s to. maybe smith and wesson 686?
-
A firearm?
Switzerland : It was normal for every household to keep their military service firearms, mainly Sig rifles.
-
Perhaps the following would be needed:
Centerfire and rimfire rifles in various action types - bolt, semi, pump, lever, break-action and falling/rolling block.
Muzzle loading rifle.
The same for shotguns.
Semi-auto pistols of steel, alloy and polymer construction.
Cartridge and black powder revolvers.
-
Everyone needs one......More.
-
That's always the case.

Been looking at the gp 100. Just haven't bought one yet because I'm not sure if I'd rather have a 44 mag. or a 357 mag.
Saw this deal today for the GP100.

OGC has a sale today thru 2PM Tuesday.
I have the 686+ (7 shot) in 6" bbl. Great firearm, and more fun to shoot than a .44 Mag for longer than 5 minutes -- unless you like pain!
You have the choice of shooting .357 ammo or .38 Special, which is cheaper, easier on the hands & wrists, and is great for practice or Home Defense if .357 Mag is a bit more than the shooter can easily manage (wife, kid, dentist...).

Everyone needs one pistol and one rifle.

I still regret selling my Super Blackhawk .44 Mag before moving here. It was a magic revolver, accurate as hell and a treat to shoot if you had discipline to not anticipate recoil.
I'd get another, but promised myself to stick to just three calibers of ammo to stockpile. Four, if you count the wife's .380 and some pissant .25 ACP.
Never was a revolver guy, but I grew to love the single action. Did not get much of a connection to the Super Redhawk with 2X scope, but it was a beast. Rather useless due to the size, where the Blackhawk could easily be worn all day in the right environs.

A .22.
at least 1 .22 rifle, and 1 .22 handgun.
good to shoot cheap ammo
and for young or new shooters to start on
-
Saw this one on some TV show and wanted it
-
The revolver has always been on the back of my mind. My pistol cals are 22 and 9. Is there a major price difference between the two? What is the "gotta have" revolver?

Gotta have revolver for me is a .357 Magnum. I love my S&W 627 but I would be happy with a S&W 686 7 Shot with 5" or 6" barrel as well.

Shoots great, and the extra barrel length helps control the muzzle even with the magnum rounds. Probably the most fun revolver I have.
Don't let the pictures fool you. It might look like a canon, but it's not that big once you try it out. With the option to practice with .38 Special ammo, the cost to shoot is more reasonable, and you can still load it up with .357 magnums whenever you need or want to.

What? Just cuz your barrel is 6" and mine is only 5" doesn't mean I have barrel envy! :D :D :D
Well, maybe a little.....
Actually my 627 is based on the N Frame so the gun is heavy and full power loads don't feel that bad. I used to have a 686, 6" barrel, 6 shot and I loved it before the ex got it. >:( >:( >:(
I shoot mostly handloads with 125gr JHP at about 1,050fps. Nice light load that is accurate as all hell. I just happen to know that this particular handload shoots very tight groups out of my friends 686 with a 6" barrel. If you ever want the recipe just let me know. ;)

Thanks for the offer, but not into reloading .... yet!
I had a new 1986 S&W 586 6-shot w/6" barrel. Sold it when I left OK in 89. Really wish now I'd kept it. It's the blued version of the 686. Adjustable rear sight with white outline and red ramp front sight was standard then, too.

That 586 is a thing of beauty with wood grips on it....

Sorry, but the title says "everyone needs one ...".
You'll have to give up your extra kids. Choose wisely!

Nope, I'm with you on that one I prefer long range precision rifles. I think everyone needs a precision rifle that's my vote.

I agree although I don't have one of those either. Lol
