Title: Hawaii’s flawed ‘concealed carry’ law makes us easy victims
Post by: MuffinMan on December 22, 2015, 09:10:34 AM
In today's Staradvertiser editorial page.

Excerpt:
"Hawaii’s onerous and legally invalidated gun laws identify it as an ideal candidate for such an attack. (terrorist attack like in Paris or San Bernadino)

Why is that?

No one in Hawaii can get a permit to carry a concealed weapon for the purpose of self-defense unless it can be proved that the applicant’s life is in imminent danger.

"Demand an answer from state law makers to this question: Why have you enacted legislation that renders me defenseless in the face of a terrorist attack, and why have you not repealed or amended it in light of the federal court's ruling that Hawaii's concealed carry laws are unconstitutional?"
In case the author reads this thread I wanted to say Mahalo.

Dear Mr. Dick Porter,
thank you for the article that was written and printed in the Star-Advertiser. My hope is that my/our constitutional rights be restored. It is great that you mentioned the 9th circuit court of appeals ruled that Hawaii's concealed carry permit law is unconstitutional.

Merry Christmas and Happy New year,
K30L4

It only "takes years" to write an appeal if your argument is BS.

This is part of the reason that our judicial system is F'd up.

This needs to end, there needs to be a time limit on something like this.

This is why people need to vet and vote the right people in office.  Taking so long to interpret the law by the judiciary is a good thing IMO.  People should be voting in the leaders that will make good law, law that is in their own best interest.  You do not want the judiciary "legislating from the bench", like we have seen in such case as the ACA etc, where the court pretty much re-defined the law as a tax, even though that is not the way it was written, nor argued.  IANAL, don't know how legal the judges conclusion was, nor all the lawyer spiel, that's just the way I read it.

I do believe though, that once a judgment has been made, these politicians and bureaucrats need to be held accountable for making sure that the interpretations are implemented without dragging their feet.  Not picked through and choose which portions or whole is to their liking and politically expedient.   As they VERY often do.

People always say they don't vote because it won't make a difference, this is a perfect example of why they should, and how it would make a difference.  It will not happen instantly, nor magically, but it will happen over time. Think about it as making this place better for your children, or even grandchildren.  "They" have been at this for decades, "they" have made progress through that method.  I think it's time to reverse.

Well said, and....another reason everyone (especially those that exercise their 2A rights) needs to join HRA and HDF or renew their membership.  "United we stand, divided we fall"
