What do I need to register a rifle given to me by an uncle? Do I just bring the rifle in and register? Rifle was registered under his name.

or this:
1) Do you have a long gun permit to acquire? If not, go apply for that, wait two weeks. Take the rifle in when you pick up the permit, and register it on the same visit. See #2 or #3 for details on registration.
2) If the rifle was registered in Hawaii, see if you can find the uncle's registration form. At least have the control number from that form, along with the uncle's info. If you can take the form itself, even better. Not required to have the form or number, but will speed things up. If uncle accompanies you to HPD, everything can be taken care of at once. If not, he still needs to notify HPD of the transfer within 48 hours of the transfer.
3) If the rifle is an out-of-state gift and was never registered in Hawaii, just go to HPD before 3:00 and do an out-of-state registration.
